UNO from Manila!

hello all,

nice site! great forum!
newbie here. i'm a proud filipino owner of a 1996 fiat uno45 here in the Philippine Islands.
well, there are few of us here who owns such a great car. it was in 1996, when the local maker of the uno stopped production. but of course i could still see unos zooming in the streets of manila and the rest of the country as well. but majority of the unos are converted to public transport (taxis). compact, low fuel consumption and superb performance enough to handle the moonlike craters of the road here plus the helluva traffic . the downside now is the spareparts that believe or not, theres only one supplier/source for the whole country.

i see your unos there got heaters while mines got airconditioning to cool down the tropical heat.

long story. i'll post pics of my car soon...

safe driving to all...

ian

Re: UNO from Manila!

heya welcome to the forum, i was gonna have a look at a/c unit the next time i went to mumbai, all the uno's i saw out there had them as standard, and see if they could be retorfitted to a mk1, cost wise i think it was quite reasonable to buy, its the shipping thats a pain, then again do u find it takes a lot of power of a one litre engine?

Re: UNO from Manila!

hello turboned,

i bought the fiat with the a/c unit already there. its a must to have one especially here in the tropics. i got 2 auxilliary fans installed to help in cooling the condenser unit. plus the rad fan so 3 fans all in all! im really surprised that a small engine could cope up much requirement. so far with a/c running i could reach approximately 140km/h. not bad e...

hello louie bee,

monopoly apparently yes. they used to be the maker of fiat uno's here its a
business commitment actually since there are still hundreds maybe more running in the country..

hello drinu,

nice to know there a half-pinoy here in the forums! loaded on an uphill climb is really a crawl give my regards to your mum! its summer here and sun is up all day! just hit the beaches this weekend.

regards to all!

Re: UNO from Manila!

hello louie bee

my beloved uno is undergoing a beauty makeover now! not actually modding but just getting her looking just like before. everything is original
except for the clarion head unit for music clarity and speakers of course. so maybe pictures will come later as i want you all to see something like "my uno in the beach theme". its now summer here actually. so just hang in there..

ps - pardon my english since we are halfway around the globe and influence of speaking is really not there at all although i've got an italian neighbor who keeps on drooling on my uno and my piaggo and british biker friends too

drive safe always!

Re: UNO from Manila!

No Problem Ian!

I’m sure we can wait (to see the beech ).

I've never had an original FIAT head unit (radio) in any of my 3 Unos over the last 9 years.

Your English is Good! I’m sure your neighbours are drooling OVER the Uno – drooling on it could easily mean something different LOL.

Re: UNO from Manila!

Ian,

Success! actually I'm also a member of a local mitsubishi club, but because of number coding (in the phils. you are restricted to use your car for one day depending on end plate number) I was forced to get a second car. I was going to get a kia pride but was very fortunate enough to get a second hand fiat uno .45 I am from Pasig city and work in Makati, My in laws live in Alabang, which is near you. Maybe we can hook up sometime?

Louie,

The car is still in stock form (I prefer it that way) Original fiat silver. Just had the under bumpers painted silver as well. The middle part is still black. (just like the one in the manual). Will try to email the pix to you if you want. I still don't have a pbase account. Thank you for the warm welcome.

Re: UNO from Manila!

turboned: You could a local 3rd party to fit an A/C system including everything Alpine Air on Honeypot Lane behind B&Q is a good place. Might be a better idea 'cos it'll include a proper warrenty etc.
