| Bad Week for the UNO, should I get a Toyota I tried to order a Sunroof seal from Fiat only to find out they no longer stock it. I called a Company in the UK and they are trying to sourse one for me, Fingers crossed!. There was a pool of gear box oil under the car on Friday. It is leaking from the rubber cover at the side of the gearbox. On Sunday I went for a drive and when I tried to go home it wouldn't start, nothing but a click from the starter. I had to tow it home. I am going to try fix the oil leak first. It is leaking from the rubber cover at the side of the gear box on the passenger side. I don't know what is inside this that needs to be replaced or what its called. below is a picture of the cover where the oil is leaking from. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...ME:B:EOAB:MT:6 Could someone what is inside this cover that I need to replace and if it is difficult to fix. Thanks.

| NobodyBlamesTheHappyGuy:D | Re: Bad Week for the UNO, should I get a Toyota Toyota, haha. That car will never break down, and you will grow old with it, and then youīll become as boring as a Toyota. I have never had trouble with the gear box seals. The driveshaft is inside this "boot". Propably pretty easy to fix, but it will take some time. I donīt think anything is broken except this rubber boot. It keeps the oil inside. Correct me if Iīm wrong folks. It is a good idea to change it else dust and sand can enter the transmission and make a cereal of it. You must find some way to remove the driveshaft. OK, this is just (un)qualified guessing. Look at the starter inside the engine bay. The starter has its own starter, a little one molded onto itself. I donīt know the correct word for it. Take a hammer, and give it a strike. NOT the metal part of the hammer, but the wooden handle. This will loosen some "parts" in the starter and propably make it work for some time. Eventually your starter will die after 100 strikes, so get a used one and change it. Thatīs an easy job. A bolt and two nuts if I remember correctly. Morten.

| this is where i stand | Re: Bad Week for the UNO, should I get a Toyota its a CVboot. i'm applying cinq thinking to this so i dont know how helpful it'll be. On the 899cc cinq, when one splits - it leaks the gearbox out of it as there is no other seal. On the 1108cc cinq, the CVboot is packed with a thick CV grease to lubricate the joint, and the gearbox oil is held in by another driveshaft seal. You can buy from halfords and other places a universal CVboot kit. You get a knife, cv boot, grease and some glue. The idea being you cut it down to the size you require - then put it round the driveshaft and glue it up. Saves removing the driveshaft. However, if the box on the uno is like that of the 1108cc you're going to have to take the shaft out to replace the driveshaft seal that has failed. I've no idea about uno gearboxes tho.

| Re: Bad Week for the UNO, should I get a Toyota Thanks for getting back to me guys. So is this "boot" the oil seal on the drive shaft. I was looking in the Haynes manual but I find it a bit confussing. I think I can manage taking the drive shaft apart and replacing the boot. It doesn't seem a very good way to seal oil in just using this boot and clipping it both sides. Is this all there is or is there another seal internally.

| this is where i stand | Re: Bad Week for the UNO, should I get a Toyota im not sure with the uno, on the 899cc cinq there isnt another seal, on the 1108cc cinq there is. but not sure with the uno like i said in my post tho, if u buy a universal kit you do not need to remove the driveshaft to replace the boot
