Fibre optics

Where do I find the bulb that lights up the Lamp/Wiper control panel. Via the fibre optic cable on my Uno 60S.
Cheers Bryan.

Re: Fibre optics

Brymak, the fibre optic bulb unit from what I can remember is under the dashboard instrument cluster. On the mk1 Uno, you have to take out the instrument pod first to get to it. Once the instrument pod is out of the way you should see where the fibre optic wires lead too. Also from what I can remember it's a bit of a pig because it's held in by a screw from underneath that makes it awkward to undo. Other than that it's quite simple to change.

Hope this helps.

Chas

Re: Fibre optics

Chas is spot-on of course, but don't expect wonderful illumination... the bulb is supposed to have a flat end with a lens built into it - I have not found a source for these, so I put in a standard bulb (in my Turbo). The bulb is on all the time with the ignition (like the clock) so it's no wonder they wear out!

Fibre-optics are functional, but it's much more exciting to re-work the switches with LEDs - 560 ohm resistor in series with each LED. Use high-intensity 5mm LEDs for the pushbuttons (with a piece of heatshrink tubing, LED will be a tight fit) and normal-intensity green LEDs for the paddle-switch ideograms. Of course, you can choose the colours... I use red for the hazard flasher, yellow for the other buttons...
