hi there can anyone tell me witch stage cam can i use in a 1.4 pacer to give it that extra bit:bang:

I don't know where you should go for camshafts/performance tuning - Can anyone from South Africa please help out here? Perhaps check through the small ads in 'Speed and Sound' magazine? ;)

I think an X1/9 1498cc camshaft should fit (and a standard X1/9 cam should boost performance a little over the standard Uno cam), or an X1/9 performance camshaft. You will have to set the valve clearances when you swap cams, which requires a stock of spare shims, micrometer, and ideally the special tool to depress the valve shim buckets.

I think the 1372cc Uno engine does not have the distributor mounted on the camshaft, so that increases the options for compatibility.

Whatever you do, don't confuse camshafts for turbo engines with camshafts for non-turbo engines. Valve timing is crucially different.

Hey Guys,

I live in south africa, and drive a uno Fire, fitted with the uno pacer engine. I got my camshaft and valves done in JHB, a place called Camtec.
They needed to extend the valves by about 1.5mm, because they dont make shims thick enough to get the valve clearances correct. In the end, when i got everything done and fitted, my Uno reffed up much higher, and faster. Didn't get it dyno'd yet, so I don't know the power figures. Cam was done about 300deg, and carb limits it to 8000RPM..
Oh and it smokes the tyres well too...

Thanks for that - and welcome to the forum!

Great to have some practical advice from someone who's actually been there, done that, and got the T-shirt (as we say)...
