Exclamation White Smoke

hey guys,
last nite I arrived at home and while I was parking between 2 cars and looking at my rear view mirror I noticed some white smoke. Got out of the car and I could smell petrol!! The smoke was faint like condensation coming out but it wasnt condensation. TOmorrow I'll take it to the mechanic but in the mean time do you have any ideas?? Thanks

Im really worried about my UNO!!

Re: White Smoke

The headgasket has gone!

The white smoke is steam - coolant will be leaking into the cylinders and is then burnt off and pumped out the exhaust where it condenses.

Other symptoms will be: water in the oil and/or oil in the water, Over- heating, loss of coolant, rise in oil level, mayonnaise under the oil filler cap.

Re: White Smoke

I thought white smoke was ok, it was just black smoke that we should be worried about?

I say this as i sometimes get big puffs of white smoke when my engine is cold.

Re: White Smoke

There are two kinds of white 'smoke'.

White emissions when the engine is cold is normal and should disappear once the engine has warmed up. If you get white emissions once the engine is warm then as Martin says you have a head gasket blown to the water side. Blue smoke is the head gasket blown to an oil source or a failed ring or cylinder.

Re: White Smoke

ok thanks guys
So I think I have an expensive fix!!

The thing which puzzles me is that it doesnt do it all the time!! Also, is it normal for the head gasket to go with only 44,000km????

Thanks

Re: White Smoke

does ur heater always blow out cold air? if so then its the head gasket. Is it a Turbo or standard uno? If its a Turbo it may be worn turbo and oil seals. White smoke doesnt always mean the head gasket but it is usually the most likely culprit.

Re: White Smoke

Mine is the Fiat UNo 45 FIRE model, so no turbo there. Well yes the heater does work obviously after the engine has warmed up!! 2hrs more Im goin to the mechanic so that he checks it out. I have noticed that a petrol smell is coming out from the exhaust together with the white smoke!

Will keep u updated!

The white smoke is very faint!

Re: White Smoke

Hei.

I changed the head gasket on my Uno 1.1 ieS this summer due to compression failure. The gasket was blown between two cylinders making one ignite without compressing air and fuel which again led to one cylinder working against the 3 others. Exhaust came UP th injection unit etc....

But mine too has white smoke through the exhaust. Performance is better than ever. And I´ve got som mayo in the filler cap as well. But no loss of coolant. I think it is due to autumn and winter weather, and not letting the car heat up before it is shut down day after day. This makes some condensation in the engine.

Morten.
