General Full Shell Restore & Rebuild! Mk1 - Mk2!!

I'm really impressed with your work. That's going to be a very solid Uno. (y) And you guide-coated the doors. Actually I think you used more than just two doors :) Off-topic but I liked the trim on the blue doors, looks like a custom job.

I haven't seen all the body strips painted in body colour like you've done. The masking tape for the sealer is a very good idea. Any other special tips - plastic primer? And did you have to sand out the texture? They look really shiny!

I like the way the stereo and CDs in your garage are covered in a red mist... that's dedication

Nice wiring work even though I think we saw more of your legs than the wires in one shot :p

The carpet in the Mk1 looked pretty sweet - the red carpet seems to survive much better than the ordinary black/brown carpet in other models, doesn't it?

I see you have the later Mk1 seats, so they haven't fallen apart! Are you going to fit the Mk1 interior?

In the words of Gir: " I like yoo..."

:D

Also, you need to learn about the macro mode on your camera ;)

Great work, I own a N reg MK2 in red, so it was almost like looking at my own car. Most odd! :D

I've always thought that the more pictures a thread contains, the more awesome it is.
Your thread gets two thumbs up! :D

Epic build "601176005", epic build..

Makes me wanna go & build a lightweight street racer... if only I had somewhere to do it... & a couple of grand spare.... (y)

Is that Fiat 189 "Sporting Red"? if it is, my old "Spark" was that colour & in overcast weather it turns luminous!

Arent you tempted to use the lighter Mk1 tailgate? I am, although I dont like Mk1 rear lights as much as the Mk2`s.. maybe do a fibreglass/plastic mould of the Mk2 tailgate & bond it to the frame?... then do the same with the bonnet... & maybe the doors.. & then the front wings...

I wonder if Alex recognises the alloys it originally had on it...:D

You recon? They look like facelift (93 on) 164 wheels to me!

(heres my old one with them on)

LOL, had to go and take another look! Nice Alfa Romeo wheels... off a Spider I think? Would look great on an Uno SX in place of the similar plastic wheel covers!

Hahah
Indeed this started as a £500 project...hmmm....haha

I don't think it is the same colour but then again most of it was pink lol.

I did look into the boots as you say, but to me the Mk1 was heaver than the Mk2? Anyone got any weights?

Getting there now, sorry Alex, will try to be more active on here. :)

On the next update....a new engine ;)

Though not by a large amount, the plastic turbo hatch is definitely lighter than the steel hatch, and the mk1 hatch is lighter than the mk2. The mk2 Uno overall is also heavier than a mk1.

Ahh right, i didn't think there was much in it!

And as for the Mk2 being heavier, i wonder what parts are maybe engine/box? As we know the shell is basicly the same between Mk1 and 2... I will be getting it weighed anyway after its finished im hopping for under 900kg. :D

Tailgate and bonnet are definitely heavier on a mk2. I think the windscreen on a mk2 is also slightly thicker (hence more weight)? Plus the SPi models have more parts therefore weigh more. Not sure about the later gearboxes but the engines are pretty much the same. The interior of a mk2 is a bit more solid than a mk1, which with the above all adds up! There's not a huge amount in it but I think the difference between equivilent mk1 and mk2 models is about 40 kg 'ish. Not much when on the road but can make a difference on the track.
