Well, as some of you may know, my current run about started out like a dull 1.0L uno, but in mint condition, so i made it into a turbo replica with parts i have lying about (always good to have loads of spares hehe)

Heres the first pic i took in september when i bought it with 46k on the clock, FSH, original bill of sale and 2 old owners :)

Here's what it currently looks like

Anyway, as the title says, heres what ive recently been doing to the underside of the uno ;)

Its still only a 1.0L but i have a 2.0L 8v turbo lancia lump lined up ready for it ;)

Wow, that looks great!

Must have taken you ages to paint with that little brush you get though. ;)

Dunc, what the hell did you do to your mid section on your exhaust?

did it not go on properly and you only had a hammer nearby? lol :D

ucof - very funny (y) How many Halfords Two-pen Touchup Kits do you think he bought?

Lovely, lovely job, Dunc... Even all the pipes are really clean. I have to wonder how you got it clean... and then what exactly did you do to paint it? Why can my genuine Turbo not look like that underneath?

I also noticed the rather mangled pipework - not that it will matter with only 999cc... and maybe that pipe is already too large :)

Your car should also come with a warning: "Number plate in your mirror may be closer than it appears"... Either that or I've got it all wrong - perhaps the number plate is the same and you've actually created a Monsta Truck Uno with 24" rims and truck-sized headlights.

cheers for the relpies people :D

took me ages, and i still have the rear part to do where the fuel tank is, but ive got a spare turbo tank to fit along with a Lancia 2.0L turbo engine ;)

i really want to change that part of the exhaust, as it bugs me! i'll have a dig about and see if anyone i know has a spare knocking about.

Alex, yeah i know the exhaust will be too big for a 1.0L, but theyre not exactly power houses, so im not fussed! it'll be needed when the 2.0L goes in ;)

Also, its going onto coilovers soon :D

Dunc

p.s. loads of touch up pens and tipex were used :D

Absolutely fantastic, Dunc! Kudos.

As you have a 2,0 8v lying around, could you do me a huge favor? Check the actual weight of the engine? Everyone says it's so much heavier than a Uno Turbo, but I have never heard the exact figure. It would be MUCH appreciated.

How big are your kitchen scales Dunc?

Tom

LOL, or maybe stand on a Wii Fit Balance Board, then pick up the engine, and see how your weight and BMI increases :p

I'd still love to know how Dunc got the underside clean enough to paint - more explanation please Dunc? :) Maybe an interim photo too.

Did you pressure-wash it? Was it on ramps or a hoist for access? How did you degrease or repair cracks in the undercoating? Did you really paint it with a brush, or a roller, or a spraygun? Is the paint now flaking off? ;)

I'd always like to get the underside of a car really clean, but I've never found an effective way to do so. Cheers for any insights...

He washed it with Fairy Alex!

My shell isn't as 'clean' by any stretch, but i'm using a wire brush attachment on a normal 4 1/2" grinder to remove the underseal and start again - you can't successfully paint over anything under there... unless you are named Dunc, and its cleaner than your dishes!!

cheers for the comments peeps :D

i've fitted some new coilover springs to the front and wound it down a bit. Also trial fitted the Compomotives off the other Green UT.

looking MUCH better ;)

as for the cleaning, it took me bloody hour upon hours and ive still not finished. Ive got the rear to do around the fuel tank and behind it (gonna take it off etc to clean and paint)

I used cheap kitchen scrubbing things like this

and
AC079294l.jpg

i first jet washed it, stripped everything off from underneath, then spent ages scrubbing everything with soapy water, then cleaned it with a cloth and clean water, then went over it all with white spirt to remove anything that was still there.
I then re applied any stone guard/sealent that was missing or damaged, cleaned up any tiny tiny rust areas (i was lucky and mine was mega clean with no rust/rot :D), then hand painted hammerite smooth. I ended up doing 3 coats to get it mint.

i then cleaned and painted everything i took off, all clips, fuel lines etc, then refitted them all.

took so so so long, but it was worth it in the end.

It'll look better when i fit my UT fuel tank im gonna refurb in silver so its like new, and fit my powder coated rear beam etc.

it'll get the scales out for the 2.0L engine lol

I still don't understand how you got access to the underside.
Do you have a car lift you are using?

I'd never fit under my Uno if it were only on axle stands! :D

it sucks using axle stands! i got a 4poster and like 8axle stands and only have access to two!
bloody family LOL

and i can vouch for the mintness of Duncs uno! its a fooking minter underneath!
