All went well after I installed the new belt. Car started fine, idled fine, drove around parking lot... fine.
(BTW thanks to all that assisted me this far)
Took er out on the road and no power, real bad pickup. No back fire no stall - just no power.
So I start thinking, what did I leave out?
Spoke to a friend and first thing he asked: "did you align the mark on the belt itself with the mark on the cam?" I said "naw belt's round so no matter the marks on the belt."

I guess this is what I left out. I still can't figure out why the mark on the belt needs to be aligned. I can only conclude that the belt has some preformed geometry.
I gonna realign the belt tomorrow, Tue.

A question before I run myself into another do-over.
Could anything else cause the lack of power?
I can get a timing light and check the distributer timing but I never moved the distro, the belt just broke.

I think you're right about the belt - I never try to align the marks on the belt itself. :eek:

The important thing is that the fine line in the cam pulley must be lined up with a notch near the join between cylinder head and cam cover. Right now I can't remember if the notch is just below or just above the join - I think it's just below. This of course is when the flywheel is at the 0-degree (forward-most) mark.

The ignition timing is important, so even though you haven't moved it, I suggest you check it. 3 degrees with the engine idling and vacuum advance defeated. Then make sure the vacuum advance is working. That by itself is unlikely to explain the power loss, though.

Lack of power with no other symptoms could be ignition timing, cam timing (retarded), low fuel pressure (if fuel-injected), blocked carburettor jet, or even a blocked exhaust.

Im outside at the car right now just got all aligned and tightened, gonna turn the engine 2 rotations and check again.
What been happening is Im looping the belt around the pulleys unevenly and not tightening the belt uniformly and the belt has jumped like 20 teeth during the course of turning the engine 10 rotations by hand.

I'll be right back in 10 min...fizzy

The mark is below the join.
 
Well 10 min. turned into 2 days.

The car started great and runs fine, better than before.
What I finally did was; starting from the crankshaft, make taught the belt to the water pump, from there again making belt taught with each tooth fitting into the each gear grove.
This way the belt didn't jump when I placed it over the tensioner and was easy to tighten.

Next Im gonna tackle the choke, brakes, and then if I have any knuckles left the struts.
