Wheel spacers

I'm thinking about fitting wheel spacers to all four wheels of my Uno. Probably about 5mm, so I maybe will get longer bolts as well.

The idea is to improve the car's handling. I've got friends who have done this to their cars (Escort, Pug 405, Rover 620, etc. etc.) and it makes a big difference for a cost of £30 or so.

Can anyone see any issues with this, or think this is a good idea?

Cheers,

Thumbs up Re: Wheel spacers

I have Alfa 155 wheel spacers on my turbo, had no problems with 'em, there about 5-6mm.

Re: Wheel spacers

Be careful on the front wheels as the brake caliper sits really close in and you may have to grind a bit off the spacer to accomodate the caliper.

Re: Wheel spacers

Spacers affect the offset of the wheel so the idea of putting spacers on and the handling improving is wrong.

And spacers put more stress on parts of the wheel/hub. Ive known wheel bearings go very quick indeed when people put spacers on.

Re: Wheel spacers

MOMO spacers fits straight on without grinding. I've got 4 20 mm spacers due to the 14" abarth alloys with huge offset.

Re: Wheel spacers

Hmm, ok, so it appears it's better if I get wider wheels with the offset to achieve what I want?

Would the Marea 15" steel wheels fit? I know the offset and stud pattern is the same, but what about any issues with the arches?
