| Engine transplant Hi there, just registered and I own a 1999 Uno Espresso, As we call it here in south africa, It is the 3 door panelvan. Now before people get so upset, i have read the forum and looked around and i am still VERY confused about what options are available to me. My engine is a mess, 200k and some on the clock, So i have decided to redo the engine, I want power aswell as reliability, But i also need to know what engines would be a straight fit. I can't post pictures yet as i have just registered, It is a 1108cc FIRE if i am not mistaken, a couple of pictures have been posted on the forum before.. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. CameL.

| Re: Engine transplant Just did a "heart transplant" on my '95 Fire after 320k on the clock. Had a bad dent in the sump, causing oil pump failure and dropped a big end bearing cap on one cylinder. I got a 2nd hand engine from OFS Car Breakers in Bloemfontein for R2k and must say that I'm quite pleased with the result. The new motor was an import and I had some issues finding a crankshaft sprocket that fit - apparently there are something like 3 different sizes on the same model. I would suggest going for a good 2nd hand motor as a straight fit rather than a costly rebuild. The Fire engines seem to be quite reliable with more than enough spares available in SA, although somewhat expensive. Performance wise also nothing wrong. Good luck!

| Cinq gone, Uno asylum! | Re: Engine transplant Your best bet is to find another 1108/ 1242 FIRE engine and swap them over. It's a simple swap too. It's really not worth trying to rebuild your old FIRE lump as it will be more expensive than swapping in another known good engine. Good luck ![]()

| Re: Engine transplant Sorry guys, I recently moved and have been without internet for some time now. Thanks for the replies. I am very much a power man, and owning an uno, the obvious Uno Turbo comes to mind, of course i want to do that. So i was kind of hoping if someone in SA could direct me towards one as a donor car, i found one in a scrapyard a while back, but it had been in a serious rear end, so that's not too good for me Otherwise, I was just thinking the 1400 engine for the car, also not a bad option... Thanks CameL
