General My MK1 Uno SX

thought I should write a little update:p

well, I took of the dashboard, while searching for some cables, and there I found the bulb for lighting up the switches, if you know what I mean:p
And I am still searching for that bulb:bang:, (it's about 3 weeks since I took it
out)

and I need another foglight, because mine on the right side is, kinda broken:bang:

that's about it, I havent done much, because the weather has been amazing the last weeks:D

and btw alex, the norwegian cars where fitted with another thermostat, because, there can be very low tempratures here in the winter, some days it can be down to minus 30-35 degrees C.

Interesting - so do you mean there's another thermostat as well as the one on the cylinder head?

You'd want 0W-30 engine oil (fully synthetic) too!

i took one out of a spare wiring loom, whilst chas and i were fighting with the dash.....i found i five minutes later......when i felt and heard a crunch under my foot:bang:

at this point the ever helpful chas advised me the odd shaped little bulb costs about a fiver to replace........double:bang:

'

sounds like fun:p

I can't seem to find it in an usual store, where it probably is cheaper, so I think I must go to a fiat dealer

More like £10 to £15 Jai ;)

The only thing the Fiat bulb has is a small magnifying glass on the end. I just used a standard mini 12v bayonet bulb that can be got from any motor accessory store and it seems to work fine plus is a lot cheaper (y)

Really love those wheels on your SX Sorum91, been after some of those for ages, the SX in the orginal sales brochure shows those fitted as an optional extra. Much nicer than the BBS wheels on mine.

I've seen those SX alloys in Uno brochures but never in real life. They must be really rare and by the looks of it hardly anyone buying an SX added them to the options list. A shame as they're nice looking wheels.

then I have had loads of luck bying this car:D, a few small problems, but it isn't much for an 24 years old car(y)

well, progress is slow, the only thing I have done with the car in about a month is changing the seats.
changed them with those in the spare car, because they are better, so not much beeing done:(

but I'm thinking about buying a ritmo abarth:D, but very much work to do on that car too:(

and about the bulb, I have found out that it may have been used in such as ritmo, regata and croma.

My dad has just bougth a 2.0 croma 1990, really good shape

I'll post some pictures in a few days;)

today I found some more rust, and I and a friend repaired some, temporeary, that is:p

gonna do some more work on the rust tomorrow:)

btw, as I have learnd, the car I called ritmo, was in GB. called strada

well, now is finally the Uno gone to get the rust repaired

so after that I may be able to do some more work, (things have been slow since I have been waiting to have that done quite a time now)

well, now the reverse gear have gone bust:bang:
But the gearbox is is in a overall bad condition:( so Im thinking about taking out the gearbox and repair it. Actully, I'm thinking of rebuilding the whole car, making it all new (this is just a thought yet), but really tempting.:D

I got a mate who will do the bodywork, and I will do the engine, gearbox, etc.

It has been so cold and very much snow, so I haven't done anything to the Uno in months:( and there is still 2-3 months of snow left:mad:, but when thhe snow is gone, then things will start to happen again:D

Hopefully:p

Thanks for the updates :)

It's not TOO bad to get the gearbox off - it's an OK-ish job when you actually get stuck into it - takes a couple of hours ;)

Have you found another gearbox? There's a couple of types. One type has a gear linkage that's only connected to the gearbox at the bottom, with a concertina-shaped bellows. That gearbox is a bit better than the other type that has a vertical rod up the diff housing with a nut on top, and a linkage across to a pressed-steel cover on the top of the gearbox.

For a full restoration, you'll probably want to buy at least one more Uno for spare parts (it takes three :D), plus you'll have to find a few new parts at shops (probably getting quite hard to find Uno parts...)

Thanks for the info alex:)

Another gearbox isn't hard to find here, there is at least 5 in a 10 mile radius;)
so that is not a problem:D

I do already got another Uno, the 45 fire, who has som good parts, and my engine is good, both of them, and the interior is not to bad. I'll probabely need some info from you guys, who has tried it before.:p

I haven't had any problems getting the parts that I've needed before, the only thing I need, and haven't found is front foglights:(

Anyone know a place where I can get a couple:confused:

Well, I won't start to rebuild till it's summer time here again (a few months)
but I will take some pictures and post them soon.

You're lucky to find that many mk1 Uno SX gearboxes in scrapyards! As far as I know they were all Strada based with the 'bottom' change single gear change assembly. Very early 70 models may have shared the same boxes as the 45's and 55's/ 60's according to the Haynes manual. Over here they were replaced on the mk2 with the later Tipo boxes so mk1 boxes are rather hard to find. They're also different to the FIRE engine'd gearboxes and the bellhouses are different.

As for mk1 front fog lights, they too are getting hard to find. Occasionally a set will turn up on Ebay but many are not in good condition. I was VERY lucky to pick up a brand new pair for a bargain price last year to replace those in my 70SX. The original units had lenses that were falling off as the sealant loses its stickiness over time. They can be repaired but make sure the reflectors haven't gone rusty.

Keep us updated with your 70SX project too (y)

Thanks for the info alex:)

Well, I need to get my share of good luck to you know:p
And I haven't had that much good luck, because now my 4. gear is gone too:mad:
but thanks for the info:D

but about the foglights I only need one (the right one) because the left one is in pretty good condition:)

Just a small update.

Today I was hoping to write the post that I had changed the gearbox in my Uno, but no. I get into the car to start it up, and the car started, I thought it sounded like it didn't run propperly, so I stopped the car, and then I tried to start it again, and then I se a lot of smoke all around the car, i got out. saw a fire under the car, and then I see that the car is on fire, I panic (we did it at the garage at my school) so my teacher finds a fire extinguisher, that dosn't work, we push the burning car outside, we find a water hose, and finally, after the car has been burning for maybe a minute or so, we put the fire out.
But the damage wasn't that bad, although the car was on fire as long as it was

And on top of that I crashed my dad's tempra last friday :bang::bang::bang:

Pics will come tomorrow
