From the handbook:

"FIAT has successfully dealt with corrosion problems arising from various sources...

...FIAT's high-technology solutions include:
- the use of corrosion and abrasion-resistant paints and painting methods;
- the widespread use of corrosion-resistant galvanised sheet steel..."

We had slightly less of a nasty surprise behind the rear bumper (see pic http://www.fiatforum.com/attachment....4&d=1213025692, rust under the tailgate seal lip) but it is certainly not unknown to find rust where you have. What I find particularly amazing on yours is the rust bubbling beside the taillights (between where the taillight would be and the rubber seal)...

Re: mk2 uno. bumper off

Yeah, im not amazed to find rust anywhere anymore, fix one bit (or rather one whole panel) then find the one next to it even worse, but there we go.

Ive "popped" all those little bubbling paint bubbles now, not so bad underneath.

That thick rubbery stuff they put on top of the metal is stupid, it traps the water in so it has nowhere else to go so it just munches through all the cheap crappy metal. But then you can't see the holes because the sealant hides it pretty well!

Anyway enough moaning from me, half the rear panel now sorted, cut the old metal away on n/s/r quater, rear panel, and boot floor and patched it all back together - strong now followed by zinc primer, waxoyl and underseal - try eating through that Mr. Rust!

Today grinded off the sills only to find the inner sills totally recked.

Not giving up like most people though - i think the rate people are scrapping these in the next few years we might see them becoming more rare?
This chassis number isn't getting scrapped anyway.
Paul

Yeah right!

Then again, I've seen a lot worse than Paul's Uno. But I've also seen a lot better with both my mk1 45 and mk1 70SX (Where's the 'smug' smiley )
