Will a X19 engine fit into a fiat uno ? Im aware that the gearbox linkages will need attention and possibly a change of gearbox.
What tuning tips are there for the x19 engine and what sort of BHP is the standard engine?
 
Yup, I've done it. You will need an Uno with the 1.3ltr (or early 1.1ltr non-FIRE) motor as its got the right gearbox, mounting points, and wiring (Or you can get those bits from another Uno)

BHP should be around 85, and the engine gains some torque. Another option is the 1.6ltr Tipo motor. Once again you will need the Uno gearbox etc from a 1.3ltr Uno.

Then its just usual tuning. The carb from the 1.5 X1/9 is a good one, or you can get the carb off the 1.5ltr Strada/Ritmo. The carb off the Tipo sucks. I have twin Delorto 36DRLAs on my 1.6ltr Uno.

When setting up a car like the Uno you are best to not think about BHP, its the torque figure thats important (you feel torque as the pull out of a corner) BHP is felt in what top speed you can do. The main problem with my car at the moment is it doesnt have enough torque (even though its got plenty of horses), this makes the car feel slugish but fast (if that makes sense).
 
Luckly I have a 1300cc uno with G/B which is currently running twin 40idf carbs.
Another question. Do any of the 1500 parts fit the 1300? I, Cam, Head etc to raise compression/torque/bhp etc?
The 1600 Fiat Tipo Engine i like the idea of.
 
The parts all all interchangable... they are all versions of the lampredi engine.

I had a real good setup for awhile there. It had a 1600cc bottom end, 1300cc head, X1/9 cam and carb. The 1300cc head has a smaller combusion chamber which increases compression hence more torque. Only downside is the valves are a bit smaller.

The cool thing about that is its all bolt on stuff, so its really quick and satisfying.

Only downside to the tipo motor is its apparently slightly weaker (so probably not as good if you want to fit a turbo). Also the cam shaft is rubbish, and the carb is a waste of time.

With the bottom end of a 1600 Tipo etc, what sort of BHP/Torque did you have?
 
To be honest I never really cared what the figures were :) I just felt that, that combo drove really well. It had good torque. and its top speed was somewhere over 190kph (my bravery ran out). The main problem was it was a bit sluggish in the 80 - 120kph area which was really annoying. I would have good drive out of corners but then bog down for a bit. BUT as I say its biggest + was the fact that everything was bolt on and generally cheap. Tipo blocks dont cost much (I got one that had broken the cam belt), 1300 heads are really cheap, the carb shouldnt be hard to find, and the cam was used in a range of FIATs (X1/9 and even the 128 used this particular cam shaft profile).

My current setup is great at going fast (it only gets sluggish over 130kph) and its good powering out of corners, but its has nothing below 2500rpm which means annoying downshifting for corners... I think I need to look at the cam-timing which I am sure is out. This setup also cost more, the head and valves were actually cheap at NZ$500, the cam shaft cost NZ$200, Carbs were NZ$75, and the manifold for the carbs was bought off ebay for 130 pounds.
