I think it was on Ebay recently, and it also used to belong to Faster4Tec who posted about it a while back. That colour and red stripe made it look rather distinctive!

Re: Uno Turbo Conversion advice... into a yugo...

You need the Uno gearbox, suspension and brakes imo. The Yugo stuff won't cope.

Re: Uno Turbo Conversion advice... into a yugo...

yeah its on ebay at minute, the gearbox and brakes i will be using, but the suspension wishbones etc i need to have a look at really, using the uno subframe is all well and good, but there is a good 5cm difference in width so that may cause problems, but more i think that will just save me buying spacers lol

need to get my head down and do some examining!

Re: Uno Turbo Conversion advice... into a yugo...

(personally like the uno)
but chopping bits out of the UT engine bay and welding them into the yugo sounds like your best bet..

Re: Uno Turbo Conversion advice... into a yugo...

also, i see your thinking about it, stop thinking and start doing, seriously once you've stripped out both cars you will have a much much better idea of the task(s) ahead, i then usually categorise tasks into how long they will take and which days i can squeeze them into, and try and stick to it, so:
1. i want engine out of UT on Saturday.
2. i want engine out of yugo on Saturday.
3. I want subframe out of UT on Sunday.
4. I want subframe out of yugo by Weds eve..... etc

Good advice!
Biggest problem is that there ISN'T a subframe in the Yugo!

I reckon best way is to buy another Yugo like the 55 I suggested that has the same engine type. Then it will just fit straight in.

Otherwise yes, just fit the Uno Turbo engine and box into the Yugo body, only three engine/gearbox mounts after all, can't be that hard. Make the Uno Turbo suspension fit the Yugo. Or make the Yugo gearbox fit the Uno Turbo engine. Those are the choices I see?

Re: Uno Turbo Conversion advice... into a yugo...

My question is WHY??? Fiat is the equivalent of German Build Quality compared to a Yugo LOL

Re: Uno Turbo Conversion advice... into a yugo...

the easy way to do the conversion is to take the engine out both cars. jack the uno engine into the uno bay keep all the rubber engine mounts on the uno engine tho. then just weld some plates to hold the engine job done. for the drive shafts cut them with a grinder to the lenght you want. take them to a local machine shop with the yugo ones and they can respline the ends if there any good.front mount the intercooler and then you dont have to worry about the room in the bay or use a charge cooler. iam putting a rover 220 turbo engine into a colt in the next few weeks for a friend and i will have to do the same sort of thing.

Re: Uno Turbo Conversion advice... into a yugo...

well some mixed comments here!

i had a bit of a look tonight at the cars, funny how you slate the yugo, i jacked the uno up and punched the jack through it 3 times, its a rotten peice of ****!

Personal choice at end of day....

Wont be starting any work as got a current project to finish, but i think the uno subframe idea will be the best, the yugo is very simple on the front and i cant see any major issues!

I agree with Alex. You need to find a Yugo 55 or a Fiat 128 with a standard ohc Lampredi engine already fitted. Then you'll have all the mountings, linkages, gearbox, driveshafts etc. need to fit the Tub engine. Problem is finding one...

The Yugo is based on a 128. Here's what can be done with one:

Re: Uno Turbo Conversion advice... into a yugo...

hmm, well i stripped the uno at the weekend, damn that thing was rotten bad, the sills, everything wasnt only rotten, it had repairs that had rotten, it was a death trap!

so i got subframe out and i really do think making the subframe fit the yugo will be the best option, i see what your saying about the 55 or the 128, but again finding one will be another nightmare

think i will get the yugos front end stripped and see how it sits

i dont think the mounting is an issue at all to be honest, i will be using the uno rack, basically the subframe and contents.

Will see how it goes, dont suppose anyone has a wiring diagram for the uno to hand?

the interior loom has an alarm and god damn its been fitted by a monkey...

Re: Uno Turbo Conversion advice... into a yugo...

you know a mk1 micra was essentially an uno, it's just someone at fiat realised it looked ****, and sold the design to nissan.

someone in here figured out that the mounting points for the bumper were identical, and replaced his shredded uno one with a stright bolt on micra item....

i wonder if the better built k10 micra would be a good sub for the yugo?
