Hi all,

Stupid question, and stupid me - i nearly bought 2 "bucket reclining seats" for something like £120 inc postage.

Now common sense says these will be absolutely shi^e ?

Does anyone know if they are or not?

I was speaking with a guy selling two Corbeau seats but i wasnt really sure if they were worth the £190 he wanted? - now i look back on it i guess they might well of been worth the money?

I dont want something thats going to flop about and be flimsy and generally crap but my problem is i wont really know until i've bought said product??

This is one of the reasons the internet really is dumb.
Ok thanking you
Paul

Im going to be buying some of them 2 for £100 seats, they look pukka they guy has had 100%positive feedback so dont be put off but the fact their not branded mate.

Well, as they say, You first ;)

im just wary - theres always something i hate about cheap stuff, i suppose even if they die after a year its still not much of a loss??

wont be buying until i've a) welded up my runners properly, and b) welded the floorpan so its safe again :p

Yep me first indeed, you can pay over the odds for some badged up Corbeaus and il save a few hundred quid.
Happy days!

oh no, dont get me wrong, i probably will get some, i was just looking for some sort of a review, so let us know how you get on - i was only ever going to get branded seats if they were second hand and cheap! i cant afford the earth ;)

woops. dont you just hate that "i just bought something on eBay and not sure it was the best idea ever" feeling :S - will let you know the quality of these seats when they arrive this week (the cheapo ones)

Nice one mate, which ones did you go for?

ive attached some pics that might help,
this home made method will allow me to use the existing part of the seat that slots into the seat runners - the ones fixed to the vehicle on a 3 door.
I might turn this into a guide when im finished if anyones interested??

so what have i done?
i've removed the mechanism frm the seat by forcefully removing the washer/peened over rivet that holds this mechanism to the seat..

this mechanism is self contained and so will slot back into the runners easily.

now im going to join them together with a section of metal bar/section - the new seats will mount onto this bar.

This will allow me to change the seats in future if i so wished.
This also allows the seats to be removed from the vehicle without any grinding or future work.
If you need to know how the front mounts work - ask me again in a few days when i've figured that out!.. more pics to follow!

parts:
solid steel box lengths from b&q - £4.95 each (approx)
details:
approx 1.25m long
quite strong - should hold both the seat and up to around 15 stone i should imagine?

seat pics, and begginings of my new pivots/mounts attached.

im pleased with the quality of the seat - i do fear that it will screw up in a few months - however the ""subframes""/adapters im making up will allow me to simply unbolt them and bolt new ones in in future so hopefully any make of seat would pretty much just "slot in"..

dont know if this will help anyone or not i suppose its quite straight forward.

the runners that came on the seat if im honest are pants - as are the ones in the fiat already - but i'd rather not have two sets of runners, so im settling for just the original ones for now. (fixed to the body already anyway)

wherever you see bluetack thats where welding will be done (shortly hopefully)

looking god mate, if you can do a step by step guide that would be tops, i was thinking about using the original runners from my turbo seats but didnt know which bits to use and cut away, sounds like you have merley taken the sliding runners from the seat and welded a panel of steel between the two?

thats the idea yeah - ive got some huge bolts to use as the pivots for where the old front mount used to be..

only reason i havent had it welded and put them in place yet is im not sure on the height im going to need (worth checking first!) - i did also consider fabricating a height adjustment mechanism with pegs for height (but gave up on that idea..) - once ive had the floorpan welded im going to trial fit them (should be this week touching wood!)

Ok, whatever you do, dont follow what i've said above.. major flaw with it.

The old front mount pivots -
trial fitted the new seats - the front mount was sticking up too high - so i bent it on a 90 degree angle - but then i looked at it logically and as it pivots its going to lift the seat up at the front.. not good.

So you want simple way to fit them? follow uneronumero's idea and just weld a small piece of box section above the rear original sliders and make two brackets to bolt into where the original mount did.

As for me?
well i hate giving up on an idea, so im going to make up two metal bars, with elongated holes in - these will be welded to the front box section on the car - and i will then make up my own "front runners" just some washers, a couple of bolts etc - this is a very long winded way of doing it, but i am doing all this to get around having ugly bits of metal sticking out (and then making covers etc etc) - will keep you posted on how i get on - just sketching it up now should get some metal later..

Yeah that makes sense the new seats would rise up at the front if only the original runners were attached to the new seats, couldnt you weld the front bar that bolts to the chassis onto the new the seats aswell fella?

i think the problem is the front bar used to go each side of the seat.. wheras i need to be able to mount these new seats from underneath.

I've bought a section of steel bar - from which i intent to fabricate some "sliders", cant call them runners as they will be rough. i will use my original plan for the rears, then the front ones will just act as a supportive mount with an elongated hole in. pics to follow

Ok so quick update on this, some pics of how my paper sketches have ended up, and they bolt straight onto the seats - and the seats fit..
i just now need to cut the lever you lift up to slide the seat forward and backward and then weld a piece between both sides, its fowling on the bottom of the seat as the angle is quite steep on it.
As for the front mounts - my mate is currently milling / drilling out the sliders which will probably get welded/bolted to the front - then they will be perfict.. (its not the most straight forward vehicle to fit new seats to!)

I used the original runners welded box section to it, welded steel plates to the front to bolt down and then bolted to the seat frame. i have pics somewhere :)
