 uno turbo whining Hi there,suddenly i am getting a whining noise when in second gear,both while accelorating and just slowing down to a junction etc...It did start doing this in third gear then stopped,now only in second gear  Has anyone got any ideas on what could be causing this?

| Classic Uno Obsessive  | Re: uno turbo whining As Fro$ty says, check the oil gearbox level asap and before you do anything else. If you're lucky your gearbox is low on oil and just needs topping up. If you're unlucky you've got a bearing on the way out.

| Re: uno turbo whining no lack of boost at all,was serviced not so long ago,so haven't really checked the gear box oil. how easy is it to get to?can't you buy oil that can help quiet down the whine on gearbox?

 | Re: uno turbo whining Greased Lightning gearbox treatment is good. they invented the ptfe treatment and thats what i always use, engine and gearbox. just makes changes a lot smoother. duno if it will stop a whining bearing tho. josh

| Re: uno turbo whining used some gearbox treatment and has done the trick,no whining and change is easy. Stated in a previous post about smoke from engine bay,if you open the bonnet it seems to be coming from the very back of the engine bay,as if under where the wipers sit??any ideas what it may be????

| Re: uno turbo whining Could be the heat shield? Mine ended up with a couple of holes in it where the engine mount was worn out making the turbo pierce the foil and start to smoulder the wadding underneath? DO NOT (as my idiot friend nearly did) try to put it out with a bottle of water!!!
