Cam carrier swimming in oil

Folks,
I have a 1.3 non-Turbo Uno, had a bit of an oil leak around the rocker / cam carrier, so popped the rocker cover off, to find the cam practically swimming oil? Is this normal on these engines?

Tom

Re: Cam carrier swimming in oil

It shouldn't be when the engine is off. Check the drain holes aren't blocked stopping the oil returning to the sump.

Thats what the problem will be, then the problem becomes "what will happen to the gunge thats blocking the drain holes when I poke them out?" Could lodge somewhere very destructive, so maybe an engine flush, oil and filter change are required after the drain holes are cleared? You know it makes sense!

Yes the rocker cover dose hold oil ready for next use.
The cam has oil ready when engine first turns over to stop wear!

I'll drain it and see what it looks like at the moment. Dont fancy forcing anything further down anyway.

So is there an overflow to allow oil back down to the sump?

The drain holes are a long way up, the oil level is about to the level where is should nearly overflow as you take the cover off (but not quite).

Re: Cam carrier swimming in oil

Ok, I think I know which are the drain holes. I'll throw a new cam carrier gasket and rocker cover gasket and see how that goes.
