Hey,

I have a '95 Uno Fire 1100, that has been giving me trouble with power lately.

A few months ago it was fine, but occasionally felt sluggish when it was cold, then basically one week it was sluggish all the time. It now struggles to climb hills in 2nd! and the acceleration is not much better than a bicycle!!

I took it in to a friends 'trusted' mechanic who had it for 6 weeks, and gave it back to me in the same condition basically. He said he replaced the plugs, and the Electronic Ignition Module. but it seemed to make no difference.

I hope that it is something simple... my dad was a mechanic and i hung around the workshop a lot when i was a kid, but never got into it!

Any advice?

Could try a few things... Clean out the engine with some Redex (or similar) check the air intake is clean, change the in line fuel filter.. otherwise you might need a trip to a garage to check what pressure the fuel pump is running at and check the cylinder compression (to check piston rings / head gasket etc) etc.. could be a lot of things to be honest !!

Check also the ignition timing. It's unlikely to slip but it can happen. Also check the cam timing as the symptoms you're experiencing might suggested a cambelt that's slipped by a tooth.

Other than that check all the fluids are as they should be, filters are clean etc. Are you losing any oil/ water? If you are then it could be head gasket.

Also, being a '95 model I assume it's fuel injection? You might have a lamda sensor fault causing the car to run in 'limp mode'. Is there an injection/ ecu warning light illuminated on the dashboard?

It could be many things so you need to start eliminating possible causes to hopefully arrive at the fault.

Will get onto all of that this weekend,

"Are you losing any oil/ water?"

Its always been using quite a bit of oil and water, but not lately..?

"Also, being a '95 model I assume it's fuel injection?"

It is not fuel injection... think the south african models differ quite a bit from the European ones...

Thanks
