We really need more info. to attempt a diagnosis Josh. Were all the electrics still working when it cut out? Did you have a near empty fuel tank? Has the fuel filter been changed as per the service intervals?

Could be anything really, but I suspect either electrics/ ignition or fueling.

Re: Mk2 Uno 1.4 Ies Cutting Out

All the electrics were still workin so was evrything else and i had half a tank of fuel!!!! I am putting a new fuel filter on this weekend but have been told that it may be the fuel relay???
Anybody know where the fuel relay is and whether or not it would cause this???
Cheers Josh

It could well be the fuel relay - if it fails then it cuts the power to the fuel pump, which in turn starves the engine of fuel causing it to die. It could also be dodgy connections to the fuel pump itself. Have a look at the connectors to see (lift the back seat and carpet up, look at the drivers side and you'll see an oblong plastic cover. Prise this up and you'll see the top of the fuel pump and fuel level sender.)

As for the relay, if the mk2 is the same as the mk1 I *think* it's clipped onto the side of the fuse box.

Try the fuel filter first, and if it's not that try the relay. By the way, is their an injection light on your dashboard? If it flashes on when you have problems the ECU might be able to be read (diagnostics) to find the fault code. That could then point you to where the problem lies

Re: Mk2 Uno 1.4 Ies Cutting Out

I had exactly the same problem after I dropped the fuel tank, really freaky cos the engine just spins over and slows down. Best way to quickly fix it is to turn off the ignition and spark it up again which seems to work. But this says to me that it's less likely that the engine is being starved of fuel as it wouldn't just spark up again straight away without hassle.

I'd say go with checking the fuel filter and perhaps try running some injector cleaner through the system. Probably best to check the ignition system though.

Let me know how you fix it, it's an ongoing problem for me

Re: Mk2 Uno 1.4 Ies Cutting Out

actually, when my mk2 uno did this it was the tdc sensor on the back of the bellhousing that reads off the flywheel, has done exactly the same thing and it took me ages to find out waht it was but is all okay since i replaced that, lee
