Uno My Black MK1 UT thread

Introduction

Some of you might or might not know but i've had a black mk1 UT for just over four years now in a lock-up

I'm finally going to start working on it and it should hopefully be on road sometime during 2008. Its not going to be 100percent original from factory but exactly how i want it to look and go!

IMO its the best one, MK1(obvious lol) black, tipo gearbox, no sunroof and the late spec interior.

the engine has been re-built with hybrid turbo, ported head, lightened and balanced bottom end, piper cam and some other goodies. once its in and running i'm going to run it on aftermarket engine management.

pictures are the first time its seen sunlight in about a year.

I'll update this thread as and when i can :)

Mark
very nice old school!! your about to go on the UT resto adventure, mine lasted 2 years, i fondly remember lying underneath, worst part, (3 months bit here bit there) with a grinder and die grinder, drill, with various wire wheels, welder, all rust cut out, etc, well worth it, i can give you a list of the products used hints and tips if ya like! and where you doing the resto! winter project! good luck!! Ant!

Wicked mark mate!

yeah you are right, tis one of the best mk1's i know of and i remember the pictures you showed me how you rebuilt it!

Cant remeber if you told if the underneath it stone-chipped and sills wax-oiled?

thankfully all the bodywork is mint on it and it has no rust, back in 2004 it had a full re-spray with brand new doors, wings, bonnet and sills, there is no rust anywhere,

I havnt added any anti stone chip or underseal as it hasnt been outside its always been in storage so that will be on my to-do list, yes Ant add me to MSN messenger mate if you have it.

really the things that need doing are all mechanical, dropping the engine back in and sorting out the brakes etc no bodywork needs doing.

giving it a good clean inside and out are first on the list along with fitting punto gt brakes on the front

pics are before and after the respray

I love your car - I hope this is ok ;-)

It can be difficult updating a thread all the time but please do as there will be many people reading it

Thanks

He he i almost said MILF!!! your on the best part (sticking it back together) although when its your own baby, always takes 3 times longer, can i reccomend dinitrol cavity wax!, it has a built in rust inhibitor, and fires great out of the gun, gets everywhere, best time to do it now just before the rebuild, inject every orrifice esp inside the a post and everywhere there is a hole poke it in and GUSH!!! let it flow!! i used a pice of air horn pipe connected to my shulz gun (a bodyshop gun for applying underbody stuff) only a fiver for a cheapo one, all for the future!! and while the blocks out is a good time to redoo the brake pipes and check all the wiring, mines a 93 and the wiring was quite badly corroded, ended up chopping it out and resoldering new wire in, Ant!

went and picked these badboys up tonight, red dot 20 grove front discs for a Punto GT, gotta get the calipers sorted and the greenstuff pads then gonna bang them on the Uno with some goodrige stainless braided hoses :)

i used to have problems with brake fade with standard brakes but hopefully not anymore!

weakest link in the ut, i never had the confidence while driving hard as the fooker wouldnt stop, constantly looking for old ladies in metro's pulling out! hated it! one of the first mods i did, the gt brakes red dot with ferodo fast road pads and they are a vast improvement, i have been given a set of lancia delta hf turbo brakes 257mm, which ive started cleaning up, just need a coat of red and rebuilding, also check your rear compensator as i had no rears due to it being seized! keep up the good work Ant!

Lol

Yeah the brakes are "Fun"!!

Ive managed to bring my MK2 Down from 120 to 70 in about 500yds! lol
The engine did help a bit too! lol

Good start mark mate!

put the new discs on to see what there like as the calipers had been removed ages ago so it took no time at all, looks much better and slightly bigger too just need to get pads and calipers sorted which i will do soon, ant if you wanna sell me your gt calipers let me know i'll have the asap.

dragged the milf back to my house its been in a lockup garage for ages now. gave it a wash to clean all of the dust off and it came up really nice it amazes me how nice the paint is.

i wanna underseal all the wheel arches, sills, inside the doors basically everywhere i can!

Mark.

Looking really good! keep up the good work matey.

I just bought some strada rims for my mk1 Turbo from non other than thepottleflump. Thanks for your time & patience.

done a bit more to the uno today, stripped all of the interior and most of the plastic trim inside to be cleaned, and fitted the lock on the drivers door, need to go the scrappy to get a few more bits of the mechanism but should be sorted tomorrow,

anyone know the best way to clean the carpet, doorcards and seats? have looked into gettin a steam cleaner but is there any other ways?

I've also added some pictures of something very rare with a uno turbo? see who can guess first lol!

Not the red seatbelts as the UT didn't come with them as standard (probably from a Cinq Sporting?)

I reckon it's the photo of the inside of the door showing the bottom of the electric window motor and a distinct lack of...

I'll leave it for someone else to confirm my suggestion ;)
