UNO 1.1 IES CUTTING OUT WHEN HOT!

This Uno has an intermittent cutting out fault when the engine is hot – it seems to run well for two or three days and then it starts to cut out, you then start it up again and the problem clears itself until the next time.

I have noticed the following:-

1 When you accelerate and let the throttle mechanism rest it seems to adjust itself. Is this normal?

2 I have noticed that this problem also happens after filling up at the petrol station when the vehicle is hot!

3 Some times before cutting out it ticks over very low as if it’s running on three cylinders.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. I am mechanically minded and had a 45S Uno before and would go straight to this type of problem, but not too familiar with this SPI model.

Do you have the breakerless Marelli distributor? If the answer is "yes" I think the electronic module is gone...typical fault on those engines:(.Take a look at the posts down...you'll see a pic of the part I'm talking about!

On my 1.0ie Uno with similar symptons (intiminent cutting out at idle for no reason), the vacuum advance unit was replaced and the problem went away.

My 1.1 ieS had a similar fault. It was the distributor. A common fault as mentioned above.

Fiat Brava 1.6 HSX, Fiat Uno 1.1 ieS.

Thanks for all the advice given to this problem. I have changed all these distributor parts before on my old Uno but seem to be paranoid that the problem lies with the SPI system.

I have now changed the Module and will give an update if this has eliminated the problem once I have done some variable mileage.
