Waterpump? Timing belt? Tensioner? Noise

Hi Guys

Been a while since my Uno gave me hassles. Been visiting the forum to keep educated.

My car: yr 2000 Uno Mia (3 door) 1.1.

My broblem: I hear a high pitch noise/sound/whistle coming from the timingbelt/drivebelt area. Could this be my waterpump packing up? the sound is getting louder and lasting longer. this also happens when the car is cold and when I increase the revs slowly and gently. it normally last 'till the engine is warm. the noise also happens between 20-60km per hour.

Also could you guys give me an idea of what is the best way the change my timing belt.

Many thanks....

Is that one of those fancy new Brazilian made Uno's?

Sorry, no techy advice - only got a 13 year old model

Re: Waterpump? Timing belt? Tensioner? Noise

Hi there,

Well, this is a simple problem, nothing to worry much about.

All you have to do is change your drive belt to the alternator / Airconditioner (if fitted). This belts slips occationaly and causes this whistling noise. This happens all the time with all my cars..

And ,as the timing belt and pulley's are slotted, they'll not slip until they break off..So changing the timing belt is not required unless it's real old..

Hope this helps..

Hello,

I too had similar problems with my UNO45 earlier.

But, in my case it was with Water pump bearing.

HMM--

I have seen a detailed guide of how to change the waterpump - in the guides section. All though it was not uno's , was completely similar can defintely of use to you.

I had mine replaced by the help of that quiet easily. U can work on the top, but some nuts are easy to be removed from the bottom.
