Ignition live in a uno start

I have an Uno start 1.0l on an N plate and am trying to get the CD player wired in so that it turns itself off with the ignition but I cannot find an ingnition live feed. Ideally, I would use the ciggie lighter but it doesn't have one. Anyone know what colour wire should I use?

Re: Ignition live in a uno start

Not sure about the Mk2, but what I do for the Mk1 is that I pull out the heater fan switch and use the blue wire there (just check with a multimeter that it is live with the fan turned 'off', but loses power when you turn off the ignition key).

Incidentally the cigarette lighter is live all the time in the Mk1, and it's wired in parallel with the brown wire provided for the radio. I would expect the Mk2 to be similar (i.e. you already have the permanent power sorted out for the radio?)

Welcome to the forum, by the way!

Re: Ignition live in a uno start

hi mate i would'nt reccomend hijacking a live from any electric compononts, either go straight to the fuse box passenger side under the dash, or ignition column, you'l need an electric tester. turn the ignition on and probe the wires until you find a live, then turn ignition off to see if it dies, personally i'd go for the fuse box, theres usualy spare slots for additional items eg cd player thats where mines wired. but i've done it to ignition in the past as theres only 5 or so wires to play with, or ease of fitment tracing the wiring ,but you have to remove the cowling, plastic around the ignition barrel.
