Clicking coming from the front right wheel...

I just wanted some feedback if you guys have experienced this..

On my Fiat Uno 999FIRE ES the front right wheel clicks especially over bumps- which may be down to the CV joint on a slow death...

If its is the CV joint, am I a fool to run the car till the CV joint gives out completely?[:o)] (am I answering my own question..)

Or do you think its something else[?]

It doesn't make a 'grinding' noise on corners like the failing CV joint on my Morris used to. Just clicks on bumps, but not generally on the flat...

whaddya reckon...
Dave

just a guess but maybe the suspention nocks something if compressed enough like when taking bumps at high speed or something. try bouncing the car a bit on the front or on that corner to see if you get the same click. not that that will really prove anything but u never know... u might work something out.

^^
another useless post from me :I

IME CV joint will click under power on full lock. It must be well and truly shot if it clicks straight ahead[:0]

In answer to the question - think about where these bits are in relation to your legs, and the ammount of energy in the 700Kg car at 30 or 40 mph B)

However-
We've had funny noises from the FIAT wheel trims which are held on with the wheel nuts.
Also make sure you've nothing rattling about in the glove box or door pockets.

Noises can be very difficult to locate.

thanks gents, I'll let this one go till I get something more disconcerting than a rattling 'click'..

..as u say, a failing CV joint will get noisy on a lock, which this doesn't seem to be doing. I have had the wheels off when I was bleeding the brakes, the CV protection is in place ok, but I didn't strip it back to get a look at the joint (fear of the unkown I guess)..:I

I'll let u know what happens if it happens ;)

Hei.

I had a similiar sound on my left wheel a year ago. But it wasn't actually from the wheel, I just thought so. It was the steering rack. Inside it, so I had to change the whole thing. Problem solved.

Morten.

Steering rack "clatter" can sometimes be felt by getting hold of the piece of the rack which goes to the track-rod end and giving it an enthusiastic heave up/down, and/or left/right.

If it is the rack, and it passes the MOT, I'd live with it on and older car.

You'll be pumping money into it forever, if you're not careful :(

Hei.

To me the steering rack did NOT have a "sharp" stop, when turning to the most left. The right side did.

Kiitos kayneste. Correct:)???

Morten.

My offside CV joint click on full lock. Other than that it's fine. It's on my list of things to do.

I agree with John H above. If it's the steering rack then leave it until it absolutely has to be changed.

...righto! that's all good news- I'll let it click to its hearts content till I get stuck clockwise on the M25 because the steering rack wont let me go take an off-ramp..:D

..enough money spent as you say John.

thanks all

Dave
PS Morten, not sure on that one! kayneste...? Have to look that one up... kiitos palyon! (thanks a million!)

Dave.

Nothing to do with the post...

I remember being on a trip to (Suomi) Finland, and were thaught that "kiitos kayneste" (or similiar) meant "thanks, and come by again / we'll meet again").

Morten.
