bucket seats (makes and ebay)

Hi all,

Stupid question, and stupid me - i nearly bought 2 "bucket reclining seats" for something like £120 inc postage.

Now common sense says these will be absolutely shi^e ?

Does anyone know if they are or not?

I was speaking with a guy selling two Corbeau seats but i wasnt really sure if they were worth the £190 he wanted? - now i look back on it i guess they might well of been worth the money?

I dont want something thats going to flop about and be flimsy and generally crap but my problem is i wont really know until i've bought said product??

This is one of the reasons the internet really is dumb.
Ok thanking you
Paul

Re: bucket seats (makes and ebay)

Well, as they say, You first

im just wary - theres always something i hate about cheap stuff, i suppose even if they die after a year its still not much of a loss??

wont be buying until i've a) welded up my runners properly, and b) welded the floorpan so its safe again :P

Re: bucket seats (makes and ebay)

ive attached some pics that might help,
this home made method will allow me to use the existing part of the seat that slots into the seat runners - the ones fixed to the vehicle on a 3 door.
I might turn this into a guide when im finished if anyones interested??

so what have i done?
i've removed the mechanism frm the seat by forcefully removing the washer/peened over rivet that holds this mechanism to the seat..

this mechanism is self contained and so will slot back into the runners easily.

now im going to join them together with a section of metal bar/section - the new seats will mount onto this bar.

This will allow me to change the seats in future if i so wished.
This also allows the seats to be removed from the vehicle without any grinding or future work.
If you need to know how the front mounts work - ask me again in a few days when i've figured that out!.. more pics to follow!

parts:
solid steel box lengths from b&q - £4.95 each (approx)
details:
approx 1.25m long
quite strong - should hold both the seat and up to around 15 stone i should imagine?

Re: bucket seats (makes and ebay)

seat pics, and begginings of my new pivots/mounts attached.

im pleased with the quality of the seat - i do fear that it will screw up in a few months - however the ""subframes""/adapters im making up will allow me to simply unbolt them and bolt new ones in in future so hopefully any make of seat would pretty much just "slot in"..

dont know if this will help anyone or not i suppose its quite straight forward.

the runners that came on the seat if im honest are pants - as are the ones in the fiat already - but i'd rather not have two sets of runners, so im settling for just the original ones for now. (fixed to the body already anyway)

wherever you see bluetack thats where welding will be done (shortly hopefully)

Re: bucket seats (makes and ebay)

looking god mate, if you can do a step by step guide that would be tops, i was thinking about using the original runners from my turbo seats but didnt know which bits to use and cut away, sounds like you have merley taken the sliding runners from the seat and welded a panel of steel between the two?

Re: bucket seats (makes and ebay)

thats the idea yeah - ive got some huge bolts to use as the pivots for where the old front mount used to be..

only reason i havent had it welded and put them in place yet is im not sure on the height im going to need (worth checking first!) - i did also consider fabricating a height adjustment mechanism with pegs for height (but gave up on that idea..) - once ive had the floorpan welded im going to trial fit them (should be this week touching wood!)
