Bucket seat fitting

Hi all,

I hope i haven't missed a post on this (i did try a quick search),

I'm not asking here if you agree with what i want to do, just if you have heard of this being done or have any ideas on the matter (just so no one has a go at me or anything..)

I want to fit a couple of bucket seats into my uno turbo mk2 as the standard check patterned seats are 1) going slightly mouldy, 2) poor condition 3) uncomfy 4) did i say check patterned?! 5) standard seats just far too high

Now has anyone done this already? (i would of thought so),
do you think i will have any major challenges in doing this? i havent even checked if its possible with regards to width of seats etc.

I suppose im just asking to see if there would be a specific brand or make of seat that would be best - i dont have a massive budget but am certainly steering clear of things like "buy 2 for £90".

i got a pair of GTE Recaros.
I used bits from the old subframe and the sliders that were on the seats.
got some box section an welded it all together.
I used metal plates to bolt the subframe at the front so its all solid
i can try and get some pics if you like tommorow

I was expecting to have to do some welding (well im a mechanic but i dont weld so i tend to get someone else to do that for me - doh!)

Yeah maybe it would be best if i come up with some way of bolting them in so i can remove them at some point - rather than welding them straight onto the floorpan? - not sure on safety/mot requirements either.

You need to make a new set of subframes which I think is what Unonumero was suggesting. You're probably going to have to do some welding to make some new subframes, then bolt them to the floor.

sorry yeah i got that, i was just wondering the best methods and if there was any mot requirement for their mountings

Was just thinking, cant i just:

drill two holes in a piece of flat metal plate, these holes will line up with the holes already in the seats runners.

bolt this piece of metal to the seat.

then drill two more holes in this metal plate that line up with the holes already in the floorpan.

then just bolt it all together?

I don't see why you can't do that considering that's how some other car seats are fitted. My old 1974 Cortina had seats that were bolted down to the floor at each corner of the seat base with a bolt going through the seat runner into a captive nut on the floor pan. There were another four bolts bolting the seat base to the runners. The main thing is that the seats are secure and will not move/ flex when someone is sitting in them. In the event of a crash it's the seatbelt itself that is what will be holding you in, though a secure seat is also of benefit.

One last thing you could check is Dunc's "Uno Turbo Restoration Thread" in the "Let's talk Fiat" section of the forum. Dunc fitted some buckets to his monster UT and did a very comprehensive run down of how he built the whole car. I'm sure you'll find some useful info. in there on fitting some

Sorry to bump an old thread and all... but it seemed relevant.

Do you have to make new subframes? When somewhere says that the seats come with them will they not do? its just id like to stick some new ones in but soldering together bits of wire to make a stickman is about the limit of my practical experience...
