Hi everyone, just joined the forum.
I recently purchased a 2004 Ulysse 2.0JTD manual, the only issue I have is that the glowplug light on the dash doesnt seem to ever come on, is this normal. If it should come on can anyone give me a clue where the fault could lie or how to go about testing various bits.

Isn't the light supposed to come on for a short period of time when you initially switch on the ignition, to show the glowplugs are working. Mine doesn't.

We have a 2.2JTD, and the light comes on for a split second - so much so, that when I put the keys in, I just turn it straight over, no waiting....

BUT you are saying it doesn't even light up?

ok now to test this idea of a blown bulb, anyone out there who's owned a Diesel, what happens if you try to start the car before the glowplug light goes out?

On the Mk 1 Ulysse, if you try to start the car before the glowplug light goes out the the engine turns over but may fail to start, or may fire but not actually start.
The glowplugs usually stay on after the warning light has gone off, dependent on other conditions, e.g. engine temperature.
If you're not having any problems starting then the glowplugs are working.

Ive had a Mk1 and a Mk2, with the Mk1 you needed to wait until the light went out otherwise it took ages to start. With the Mk2 my light has only ever come on briefly in the depths of winter, normally you don't see it. As Stuart said you just turn the key and it starts.

If yours starts up then I would say its normal.

When I got my (mk2) Ulysse I complained to the dealer that the glow-plug light didn't come on, they said the manual probably hadn't been updated to delete the reference to the light ;-) - but I have seen it come on very occasionally; it has to be a cold day.

Had it checked by fiat. Nothing wrong system checks out ok. Just need to get used to a diesel and its quirks.

Right I have had enough of the contradictory (think thats how you spell it) information from Fiat on the Ulysse,

Before I dig out my scope and attempt to suss out this car can I have the following information.

Can all persons who have described their glowplug light status please tell me what year/model/specification your car is and exactly what electrical features the car has fitted.

Has anyone out there got the wiring diagrams for the Ulysse Mk2.

04/EL/pretty standard electricals.

If your car is starting okay, I wouldn't worry too much about the light - life's too short.
