Locking Wheel Bolts

Hi

I need help with an idiot question. I've recently bought a 1999 Ulysse with alloy wheels. The wheels are fitted with locking bolts, one per wheel, which I assume was an option. The locking bolts are more recessed in the wheel than the other 4 bolts and have what I assume is a metal cover. With the car came a black plastic tray containing the 4 replaced standard bolts, the metal 'key' with 3 protruding lugs, a black plastic 'adapter' with a hole in the top and another black plastic bit which seems to fit through this hole and finally an empty slot.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the locking bolt cover and what is missing from the tray?

what is missing is the piece that fits inside the plastic looking nut with the hole in it it is about the thickness of a pencil with what looks like a small washer on the end this allows you to pull off the cover that covers your wheel nuts

Thanks for such a quick reply. I have both the black plastic bits you mention. They fit in middle row of tray with the 'coded' socket and there is still one blank cutout that looks as if it once held something.

Still mystified as to how cover comes off. I have fitted two plastic bits together and pushed onto locking nut cover. Pull on thin plastic bit and it comes straight off again, do you have to hammer it on with say a nail punch to get a stronger grip? What is the action ie twisting, levering?

I had a Rover that also had covers and left them off permantly.

Once I get these off I will go back to all original nuts as I'm fortunate to live in rural Southern France where the yob culture and thieves are almost non-existent.

sometimes there is a space for 2 keys [nut with the prongs as for taking the covers off you have to push the nut looking piece right on then twist and pull on mine they are round under the cover so a little twist and pull should work hope this helps oh if you want to keep them on a little grease inside helps when you take them off

I find that just gently manipulating the locking bolt cover with a flat sided screw driver gets them off to reveal the locking bolt. I too couldn't work out how to use the black thing so resorted to the screwdriver.

Eureka! Got them off. One by using the tool, one by screwdriver and leverage. Then, once I understood the design, the remaining two came off very easily using a large pair of long nose pliers.

Thanks to both of you for your interest and help. Now I can get the wheels off to check brakes and discs et al. I can also drive it without fear of a puncture.

I've only had car a short while and I'm gradually sorting the snag list.
