I need an adapter for the diagnostic socket on my 1997 Ulysse as most garages do not have the correct plug. Any ideas where I can get one. I've tried ebay without success. I have a problem with the abs and need to find out whether or not it is the pump or an individual wheel sensor. The light does go off occasionally so I think that it is a wheel sensor that is the problem.
many thanks, Alan.

Hi,
I held off responding incase anyone had direct knowlege of this. Do you have diagnostic software already? If so what is it? I use Multiecuscan (MES) but it does not list the Ulysse. It may still connect though by doing a scan or selecting a similar vehicle with the same ABS ECU.
I assume your car has the 3 pin diagnostic socket. You can get a 3 to 16 (OBDII) pin adaptor (search on the forum for more information) like ebay item http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161191734627 You need to use a "dumb" K-line (KKL / VAG-COM 409) interface like ebay item http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390665706953 (note these are just examples I've not used either seller). The common ELM 327 interfaces won't work with the 3-pin systems.
If you are near Cambridge I can try MES for you. otherwise it would be worth the small investent in an interface and adaptor, you can try MES in the free mode.

Hi, Robert.
Many thanks for the information. I have been intouch with a diagnostic technician who is coming this morning to do a check. I did warn him of the type of vehicle and he has the correct adapters. However I will look up the info that you have given me for the future. I was a mechanic in my younger days (now 79) and once he tells me where the fault lies, I will tackle the problem myself. I think it is one of ther wheel sensors as the light does go off sometimes.
Best regards, Alan.

No problem, glad to help. If it is a wheel sensor fault that is reported, there are a couple of things to check before changing the sensor:
1/ sensor connector. Check and clean (contact cleaner or WD40) even a small amount of corrosion can affect the circuit.
2/ clean sensor and check gap. The sensor has a magnet in it and if rust or
metal particles build up on the face it can cause problems.

Of course if the sensor is very cheap it can be easier to just change it rather than jacking up, removing, cleaning and replacing just to find you have to do it again to fit a new one anyway.

Hi, Robert.
The man has been and diagnosed the front offside sensor. I will change both sides to be sure. I did have a look at the faulty one but was unable to get the sensor out. He said you normally have to destroy them to get them out. I got to see the plug that he used, it is not a three pin one but oblong with many slots for pins, I'd say about two inch long roughly. I will have a look at the Citroen 806 and see if I can find one.
Again many thanks,
Alan.

Hi,
The diagnostic socket sounds like the standard OBDII / EOBD. A VAG-COM 409 to USB interface should work OK if you want to try Multiecuscan on a PC.
