Hi the good people on the fiat forum, I have a bit of a problem with the braking system on my 2005 ulysse. I found out that the rear calipers were seized so I stripped them off on both side unfortunately I had to wait to get the new one's so its been sitting a while with the system open, now I have got them I have fitted new calipers, disc's, and pads to the car and have bled the system, on the rear i'm only getting fluid on one side with no air in it and on the other side fluid started to come out but i'm now not getting any and on the front i'm getting no fluid at all could this just be an air lock in the system as I have no breaks at all so i'm a bit confused as I have never seen this before hopefully someone out there can point me in the right direction thanks guys

Hi yes it does have abs and I just put the fluid in by normal means and the bled the brakes and the fluid level didn't drop so that's what making me think its an air lock and I need to know how the best way is to remove it as I have tried everything I can think of

Hi no hope,

Best bet now is to get yourself a pressure bleeder ( gunsons? ) as used correctly it will get the air out of your system with ease.

It's a little like turning on a tap and letting the pressure force the air out and refill with fresh fluid, probably needed doing anyway as the fluid is hydroscopic and will absorb some water over the years.

Screwfix sells the kit complete with the necessary adaptors for most cars : http://www.screwfix.com/p/gunson-br...tracking url&gclid=CL_G4IbejM4CFceVGwod9bUHmw

Hope this advice helps

using pressure - like with the kit supplied could work well,
others use vacuum,

I've had an issue before where it's taken a HUGE pressure
to shift some crud in the line.., :yuck:

but wouldn't advise such an extreme method with a £500 ABS pump in the line..,

thanks guys, I was thinking along the same lines but its always good to get the extra advice, I will get one and let you know how I get on.

Hi guys got a sealey brake pressure bleeding kit and used it today and bled the break and loads of air came out but i still have no breaks on the car.can anyone shed some light on this. Could it be the vacuum value or master cylinder and do these cars have a servo on them as im stumped as to what it could be or shall just keep bleeding the brakes? Please help guys thanks no hope43

You say loads of air came out, however did it eventually stop and just have brake fluid coming out?

If air was still coming out, then it was getting in somewhere, and still will be.....

With the sealy pressure mit you can test the system which is what i did for around 10 mins and the pressure didnt drop at all. Before i put the new calipers on the system was open for a few weeks so its gonna fill with air. I been advised by another mechanic just to up the pressure a bit and just keep bleeding the system also he mention that it may be possible that the system has whats called brake pressure bomb can any shed some light on this cheers guys

The brake servo is different to most vehicles and will make the brake pedal sink when pressed hard and stationary, this is normal. Have you checked on a diagnostic computer, some vehicles require you to bleed the system with a diagnostic computer in abs system.
You should also try pushing all calliper piston right back and wedging in that position when bleeding.
Make sure the fluid level is always full when bleeding system, keep it right at top.

Didnt know that i would have to put it on diagnostic computer hopefully i can find someone in the west mids who has one lol.and i bleed the system at 10psi which is what i was informed to do im gonna up the pressure over the weekend and see what that does and I've probably pulled out of the whole system about a litre.

10 PSI,

I had an issue once where the "shared supply" clutch had stopped working..it was actually BONE DRY..

used an easibleed - nothing still dry.. in desperation I used a footpump , - at @60 PSI the crud in the line blew through and I had a working hydraulic supply once more:woot:

with a mega expensive ABS pump in the line - I would be less aggressive.., but edging up from 20 to 30 should be acceptable,

but getting the ECU to drive the ABS pump could still be your best bet,

have you posted in the general forums that you are looking for FES / MES in West Mids, ?

Hi guys i've re- bled the brakes with my sealey pressure bleeding kit and I brought the pressure up from 10 psi to 20 psi which shifted quite a bit of air out of the system and I now I have some breaks

but i'm still not convinced with them as the pedal still seams to drop away and you have to pump it to bring it back. Could it be air in the abs modulator and if it is, does anyone know if there is a way to bleed it out or does it need to go on a abs scanner to run the pump to clear the air out thanks in advance nohope43

Hi Charlie I haven't posted in the general forms as of yet for a FES/MES but I think I may have too and I don't want to sound dumb but what is a FES/MES thanks in advance nohope43

hi, :)

it's MultiECUScan ( formerly Fiat ECUScan)

you plug it into the cars diagnostic post, and it communicates with all the different "computers" on the car.(y)

look at the MultiECUScan website, ;)

Hi ok ive looked into the MES/Multiscan and it doesn't look like it is covered by the guys at multiscan so will post in general forum to see if anyone has a the multiscan tool around the west Bromwich area thanks again guys

Hi guys still no luck with the breaks on my ulysse, had mechanic look at it and he has said that its the master cylinder that is now at fault the thing i need to know is, will a Peugeot 2004 2.0l hdi master cylinder fit mine as it has the same v number on it and im struggling to find one as they seem like gold dust thanks

Hi guys finally got the breaks sorted on my ulysse it turned out to be master cylinder in the end and that was a nightmare in it self but thanks for all the advice guys
