Re: outside temperature display

Hi

Just fixed that problem on mine. It is likely that the instrument panel bulb has blown. I removed instrument panel, checked bulb for outside temp display - it had blown. Tried another bulb from the panel and voila! They are tiny bulbs which come with integral black plastic base. They slot into back of instrument
panel and then twist to lock.

Re: outside temperature display

I don't have anything as fancy as a outside temp disp but my clock did the same and just like seanb it was the tiny lamp. Got a replacement lamp from Halfords.

Re: outside temperature display

Hi

Let me have an e-mail address and I'll send you relevant page from manual.
It isn't difficult - only one of the screws is a bit tedious.

Re: outside temperature display

Hello, I have the same problem but cannot get the black dash cover off. I have removed the ventilation component and the two screws in the dash but cannot get any further - don't want to break the dash!

Also, the bulb for the climate control temperature display has also failed - any ideas on how to pop the cover off of that one as well?!

Cheers.

Re: outside temperature display

Hi Zebedee

What year is yours? If it's the older style, I can probably help.

Regards

Re: outside temperature display

Yes, it's a 1999 TD EL. Owned it about a year now and it's been a good car so far, although I've had to replace loads of the consumables, tyres, brakes, etc and just recently bumped one of the sliding doors which is being replaced on Tuesday - nightmare! A slight scrape and it's caved in the whole body panel.

Re: outside temperature display

Hi Zebedee

In addition to the torx screws you have already removed (ventilation ducts and top of dash) there are 2 more torx screws holding the bottom of the instrument cluster and, from memory, one more holding the bottom of the black dashboard trim around the instrument cluster. They are not that easy to reach and a flexible drive to the torx bit helps. Access is gained by removing the 2 part shroud around the steering wheel control stalks ( remove 2 torx screws in the bottom shroud going upwards and gently remove shroud - one part is held by a metal clip, it helps to unlock steering column adjuster and move steering column which lets you see the clip and how it works). You should now have enough access to the 3 bottom screws. I think the centre one is hardest to get at and, again, it helps to move steering column to get best access. The instrument panel bulbs come with an integral plastic base and you twist to remove and the reverse to replace. I don't know if these can be bought from motor factors/Halfords or main dealer.

Hope this helps

Sean
