Bought as non runner, it broke down after long journey accelerating onto motorway. Was still running but just.
Did have codes p0300 and p0201 as I got it.
I started afresh, replaced plugs, crank sensor, cambelt, tensioner, idler pulley, water pump, aux belt, oil filter, air filter, battery, all visible electrical connectors in engine bay and blast of WD including ECU.
Engine starts but ticks over rough, revs freely as revs rise.
Can hear that cat is a bag of spanners, loose elements.
At idle there is a noise I can only describe as a clacking noise coming from the cam pulley area more to rear of engine.
I was originally worried cambelt had slipped but put timing locking pins in before removing belt and all lined up immediately so no obvious timing problems. Nothing to suggest slippage.
So my question is, any idea where noise might be coming from?
Rear exhaust cam pulley is area of noise, symptoms maybe a misfire but all codes now clear.
Engine light flickers occasionally at tick over but goes when revs increase.

Think I've solved it. Ran car without alternator belt today and noise is gone. Crank pully looks all good but now suspect alternator clutch pulley probably seized causing snatch on belt and tensioner going crazy causing typing sound. Ordered replacement so let's see
