Question Ulysse tyres - again!

Looks like the Ulysse needs 4 new tyres! Could be a mix 'n' match of things, but got to 20k miles on them, and there is some kerbing damage [blame the mrs ]!

Anyway, car is also booked in next week for its 2nd year service at the dealer, and they are prepared to fit the tyres I will be supplying, plus get it laser tracked -THEN the situation can be monitored over the coming year, before 3rd year warranty runs out....I have spoken to them about the rear axle, but at the moment they are not willing to do much!?

I intend to buy tyres online, probably www.mytyres.co.uk BUT any recommended choice of make?

I know poggy rates the Michelin Premacys - so I may go for them! I am not convinced by the Pirellis, either on this car or the Stilo, so will avoid them...

Re: Ulysse tyres - again!

I agree that Michelin make good tyres... but I've always liked Bridgestone more. Maybe you should start a poll in the voting section?

Btw, what tyres do you have on the Ulysse and Stilo at the moment?

Re: Ulysse tyres - again!

Ulysse has its original Pirellis on - either P6s or P6000s, I can never remember

Stilo, when I bought it, had 2 Firestones and 2 Pirellis - shot to pieces, so now on 4 Bridgestone Potenza RE04

The Ulysse tyres are more for safety - it is a large car, so not that fussed about performance issue i.e. rather go for a slightly harder compound.

Re: Ulysse tyres - again!

My wife also like making friends with pavements and potholes, and the Michelin Energy on her car seem to take the beating quite well, but then again, it's a french tyre on a french car.(Renault Megane II)

I've had 2 conti tyres fail on me before(seperate ocasions), so I would be reluctant to suggest any contis...

If you are looking for a long lasting tyre with a hard compound, the Goodyear NCT5 is a good bet. The only problem with a harder compound tyre is that they usually don't grip as well in the wet... and you being in the UK, I would think you need wet tyres more than harder ones

RE Bridgestone Potenzas on Stilo: I convinced the dealer who sold me my car to fit that tyre instead of the Pirelli P7000... and I love them as I do a lot of hard driving.

Re: Ulysse tyres - again!

I have Michelen Primacy on the Ulysse and they have done 23.5K and probably should get another 5-6K from them.

Re: Ulysse tyres - again!

Thanks Andy - and they are fine in the wet and dry?

I will have a shop around tonight on the net, and see what the best price is! I can't recall the profile right now - 195s on 16" alloys.

Re: Ulysse tyres - again!

They seem good in all weathers, I think they are 205 ?? R16. You only get a choice of a couple of tyres in that size.

Have you had a price for your second year service, our's is £460 !!!!!. As the car has only done 23K and the 2nd service is for 36K on the petrol we have opted for a low mileage service for £105 + £40 brake fluid change.

Re: Ulysse tyres - again!

£460 for a service I just hope my Stilo's 2nd year service isn't that expensive

Re: Ulysse tyres - again!

£460 I may phone them back up, lol - confirm what my options are - I did speak to the service manager, who knows me quite well....Car done just under 20k BUT is a JTD, so that may affect it.....

Are they 205s? That is same as my Stilo, and I am sure they are not the same - will find out once I get home.

EDIT - Ok, they are 215/60/16s according to one of my earlier posts....

Re: Ulysse tyres - again!

Right, just spoken to dealership, with the service sheets to hand [see sticky in Lets Talk Fiat]

The JTD under a 12k mile regime - I could go for a small service, costing £125, BUT would then need to come in within 6 months or so, at 24k, to have the additional work done! Therefore I have gone for the full service, £220, which includes everything, inclduing brakes.

I spoke to him about tyres as well - they recommend the Michelins as well, due to the compound

Why you delete the post, Andy

Service sheets are here, just in case people weren't aware http://www.fiatforum.com/lets-talk-fiat/33957-fiat-service-sheets.html

Re: Ulysse tyres - again!

Were the hell did they get £460 from then, as the only difference is the spark plugs compared to you having the FAP refilled. So that would make spark plug change a £240 operation, I am in the wrong job.

Could you do me a huge favour and ask your friendly service manager how much he would charge for a 36K service on a petrol 2.0 auto.

I did actually ask him, explaining why I was phoning back to get a proper quote - did mention the fact a friend had been quoted £460 for petrol service, and he had no idea where they had got that amount from :s - I didn't ask for the actual price, though, because wasn't aware you wanted it....

Maybe phone them in a few days time, I will PM you their number [better not do it straight away, too obvious]
