Start from flat battery

On Holiday in my new 2.2 JTD Ulysse, I left my camping fridge plugged in overnight (not very clever). Next morning, the remote would not unlock the doors. I had one of those booster battery things with me, so I opened the door with the key and connected the battery. I put the key in the ignition but before I turned the key, the alarm stated. I pulled the key out and pressed the fob button but the alarm would not stop. I panicked and disconnected the booster but the alarm kept going (stopping every now and then) I shut the door and phoned the AA. The alarm stopped before the guy arrived, when he connected his jump leads the car started ok, I don’t know why he didn’t have the same problem?
How should I have gone about starting the car?

Re: Start from flat battery

probably just the battery being low caused the alarm to go off. a jump start from one of those diy bossters is nothing compared to the amps the AA one would put out.

as for jump starting your carr im going to leave that to the ulysse members as i feel it willbe a bit more technical going by some recent posts on the newer fiats and jump starting

Re: Start from flat battery

I have had the same problem when disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU, when it reconnects the alarm goes mad and then the immobilisor won't allow the car to start.

If you leave the booster connected and then lock and unlcok the car a couple of times then it seems to clear the fault. It is a bit random but keep trying until it works.

First time I did it, I thought I had killed the car.

Must be a flash tent on your campsite to have e-mail

Re: Start from flat battery

Thanks, I hope I dont have to do it again, but I will try your suggestion if I do. I had the booster outside, so my door was open all the time, this could of been the problem. Like you, I thought I was in deep trouble, and was pleasently suprised that everything came back on line with my settings, even the electric seat returned to the right position.

Although I do go camping in style with every home comfort, there was no wireless signal for my laptop at the tent! I posted this thread when I got home!
