Major help needed please!

Hi Guys

I'm at work in halfrauds at the mo, and one of our guys has fitted a handsfree kit to an 04 Ulysee. It worked fine for 5 minutes, then the car went tits up!

Apparently, the radio now refuses to work, and the engine won't start (the immobiliser warning light comes on he said). Anyone got any ideas? I've taken the battery out and we are now 23 minutes in, going to reconnect it after 30.

*prays that Stu is online*

Hope it's not a customer's car! Nothing was shorted out during the installation was it?

Hello....

What radio is it for starters? Presume this on a Dynamique model, not Nav or Nav+?

Re: Major help needed please!

Its not Sat Nav, just a radio.

We've just reconnected the battery, and the wipers are on intermittent mode themselves, and the dash still says "Engine Immobiliser Fault"

And yes, IT IS A CUSTOMERS CAR! Oops!

Re: Major help needed please!

What exactly has he connected the hands-free to? Maybe he has got involved with the CAN bus?! Not good....[or VAN bus ]

A tech guy may know more - NumanR / fiattech / Txxxx etc...

Re: Major help needed please!

That was my theory. I reckon the car has realised that the CANbus has been cut somewhere and it's gone into this safe mode.

Both the front and rear wipers are on intermittent mode, the radio isn't working, and the engine won't fire over (starter is going but the engine won't engage).

And the customer is getting rather pissed off

Re: Major help needed please!

I wish I could think about it more as well - got to interview someone here in 10 minutes, lol, so my mind is kinda elsewhere.....

So this handsfree kit - I presume your guy just tried to attach it to a few wires he found

Re: Major help needed please!

I would be temped to take the kit out again and look at how he wired it up. It does sound like the bus has been interfered with. (Its a VAN bus not CAN not that makes much differance here!)

The passenger air bag controller lurks up under the dash and the main controller is somewhere near that. They are both interconnected so perhaps one of the connectors have been pulled?

Re: Major help needed please!

Well I decided to stay and play around.

I've tried resetting the body computer (as per the eurovan website), and there has been a minor improvement. Now, the wipers don't go off all the time, and the central locking is working again (key only), and the electric doors work now too.

Basically, the car comes up with "economy mode active", but the radio and climate control don't work. Also, the engine fault light won't turn off, hence the car won't start. The remote locking doesn't work either.

Any ideas from anyone? The customer intends to go on a 5000 mile journey starting tomorrow, and I can see the price of a hire car being rather extreme!

Thanks guys

Re: Major help needed please!

You should never really connect a mobile phone kit or alarm to this type of car. It is a multiplexed system, which as you probably know means that data for several operations goes down a single wire. If you load the wire by connecting other equipment to it, you could destroy the body computer which is very very expensive and has a lead time of several weeks.

Did he cut into the power cables and the speaker cables only or did he try to connect the mute signal as well.

I doubt the AA guy will be able to do anything other than tow it to a dealer as they will need an examiner to trace the fault. I hope I am wrong for the poor guy going on the trip.

I think halfords may be in for a big bill !!!
