Hi

I have a 2.0 diesel ulysse, 54 plate with just over 100k on the clock.

Last week it cut out while driving (the engine management light came on at this point) and wouldn't start again so got it towed to a local garage who didn't know what was wrong with it so they got someone to come out with a laptop and check it and apparently it was an electrical problem as some wire was corroded. They fixed that and gave me it back.

Since getting it back the e.m.l is still on (warm or cold).

My lcd screen has dead pixels, but comes and goes I did notice some sort of anti pollution message, but this has only came on the first time i took it for a drive.

Now it is not getting away right when in 2nd gear upwards when putting the accelerator down. The revs are going too high for the speed. Which from looking on here and the internet seems as if its in limp mode.

Its fine performance wise for say the first 10 to 15 minutes after starting it from cold seems to be when it gets warmer.

Does anyone have any ideas, if so these would be greatly appreciated!

Quite likely the coolant temperature sensor - which if it doesn't read correctly will cause the the injection system to misbehave. Does the "overheating" waring lamp work?

Thanks for your reply Brittleware I have tried my best to answer your questions below;

"Does the "overheating" waring lamp work?"

Is this the Coolant temperature warning light? If so yes comes on when I turn the ignition on, but goes back off as normal when driving.

"presumably the nasty orange pollution fault at lower right is lit when limping? Or has someone disabled it?"

Is this the EOBD (engine failure control system) light? If so then yes, but this comes on when turning the ignition as normal, but stays on when starting the car even before it seems to go into limp mode.

I have noticed that the anti pollution message doesn't seem to be coming up on the screen anymore!

Sorry the screen came on a while there after starting it and it seems the message is still appearing "Engine Anti Pollution System Fault".

Causes can be many things. Blocked particulate filter is one. We had the EML problem for ages intermittently, by which I mean often! Driving very gently could stop it happening, but climbing any sort of hill had it light up and go into limp mode. I finally discovered the cause was a split in the pipe between the intercooler and the turbo - split at the point where the pipe is fitted to the plastic duct under the sump. Definitely worth a look .It will only tale a small split to wreck the turbo pressure and therefore mean mis-fueling.

No probs thanks again for your reply I thought this could be the case that it could be one of many things. Will try and get someone to have a look at it as I know a mechanic. If i get it solved will update the post here.
