People who have tried Liqui Moly Diesel Purge had given this product good reviews so I thought I would give it a go. I filled my fuel filter with neat Liqui Moly and ran the engine for 10 minutes. My subjective assessment is that my car is now accelerating better and has a generally more lively response to throttle changes. Liqui Moly is supposed to restore injectors by cleaning deposits that build up over time. This is the stuff I bought:

Can you describe the procedure you used in filling up your filter?

F/Fran:

I removed the filter from the car, removed the top from the filter and poured the diesel in the filter into a clean container. I then filled the filter with Liqui Moly (it takes nearly all of the 500ml can contents) replaced the filter top, refitted it to my car and started the engine.

An alternative method is to run your car until the tank is nearly empty, put the Liqui Moly into the tank and then start the engine. Putting it in your filter is preferable as this means your injectors will be running on neat diesel purge which cleans them more effectively.

Won't much of the Liqui Moly get sent to the fuel tank immediately via the tank return line? Happy to be told that's rubbish!

Yes, some will go back to the tank, but the HP pump, common rail and, most importantly, the injectors will get a dose of neat Liqui Moly before the supply from the fuel filter is exhausted. According to the manufacturer, the product still works when mixed with diesel in the tank but faster/better results will be obtained by putting it neat into the fuel filter. Before using it, I made sure that my tank was nearly empty.

Thanks - I'll have a go at that when replacing our fuel filter. If that is I can get the damn pipes off it! (Any hints greatly appreciated...)

I find pressing in the connector release with a small screwdriver whilst rotating/pulling off the connector works quite well. Saves broken fingernails.

Maybe I'm not pushing hard enough! I bought three various sets of pipe line tools - not one works. The filter has sat unloved on a shelf for months...

yep, definitely have to twist them back and forth no matter how hard you push the tab in.

I use long nose pliers.

Interesting idea which I am tempted to try. I have for some months now been using - Millers Oils Diesel Power Ecomax fuel treatment 500ml - in my 03 2.0 jtd at each fill up and which I have found to be useful both in making for a quieter and smoother tickover and in reducing the amount of smoke under acceleration. I only use BP or Shell standard diesel and I started with a double dose of this and then just single measures and I am very happy with the result on both of my diesel vehicles. I am sure however that the Liqui Moly idea would provide a quicker cleanup.
