Well I've read just about every post on all the forums about the leaky Eurovan2's and I want to dispel any myths that have been bounded around, my evidence is in the yard in the form of a Citroen C8 that I have stripped down.

Firstly there are NO drains on these despite reading that some dealers have insisted there are! The water swooshing around that people hear overhead is just that, water sitting on top of the roof lining which looks waterproof, well enough to create a small pond above your head which reveals itself usually when cornering via exiting the centre roof console!

Secondly I can see no evidence of this mysterious crinkly metallic strip that has been reportedly replaced by dealers at a price of over £1000.

Basically these sunroofs can only be compared to the type that you used to fit on your old Cortina or Escort etc. that is, get a jigsaw, cut the hole out and then silicon the top frame and then bolt up the bottom frame from inside. Except these car roofs are pressed with the holes rather than cut out.

So the question is which part leaks? The rubber seal that the glass presses against or the rather inadequate seal that the frame presses against the roof? Well on this C8 the 10mm nuts which sandwich the 2 frames together, some were not what I call tight at all, some could be tightened by as much as 2 turns. If I was rebuilding them I would recommend a locking compound on the threads and a better sealant such a Tiger seal etc. compared to the little strip that is used by the manufacturers.

The glass seals are over £70 to buy new, considering there are 3 of them that is totally extortionate! Given that so many of them have had problems you'd think the car manufacturers should provide these at a much more realistic price!!

Actually stripped the roof lining out last week, it's not as hard as you'd expect really. I had planned to put the headlining in from the Citroen C8 that I broke as it is in better condition but there was a difference in the way it was attached to the roof. It may be down to the year, Ulysse being 04 and the C8 being 03 but mine was held up by 2 plastic nuts in each of the courtesy lights, the C8 simply had a sticklebrick type of setup where 2 blocks of small fingers simply hold together, probably less effective than Velcro so I can see why some people complain of sagging roof linings now!

On each sunroof I removed the old seal which is just gummed on, it's about 10mm wide and came off without too much fuss. To re-seal them I used polyurethane adhesive sealant, the same stuff that bonds body panels together (don't plan on having to remove the frame again in the vehicle lifetime!)

Also the outer seals were removed, cleaned and reseated again using a small bead of the sealant for good measure.

Whilst the roof lining was off a quick test of the hose pipe, all looks good on front and back sunroof but slight drip from middle sunroof, on inspection the drip came from a small plastic plug at the front middle held on by 2 self tapping screws. Removed it and applied more sealant to the plug and to the 2 screws underneath.

Heavy rain forecast in the next couple of days so hopefully we should stay dry now!

Hi. Just wondering how the leak had been in recent weeks.
Just bought a c8 after owning a ulysse until a year ago and have found the sunroof leaks.
I didn't have sunroof s in my ulysse so this is new to me.
In fact it was an old addisonlee car that leaked from the roof grommets that I fixed using tiger seal.

Thanks

no leaks for me anymore even with all the bad weather we've had! My conclusion is that the adhesive strip used at the point of manufacture is totally ineffective after a few years of slamming doors, expansion, contraction & frost etc.

So my advise to anyone is to remove the lining and reseal them using tigerseal. Not an quick job by any means but worth it if you love your Eurovan2 like me!

Thanks.
Good to know that it works.
Any tips for removing the roof lining?
Worried about ruining it.

It's pretty tough looks like fibreglass on top.

Just remove all side trims and put string on the sun blind wires so they can be pulled back when refitting.

The cabling is clipped onto the lining too so when you lower it reach through the sunroof cutouts and undo the clips.

Still no leaks even after all the terrible weather in the last 2 months!

On the subject of sunroofs - does anyone know the reset sequence for the roof? My MK II 03 triple roof version has (since I got it) on all three roofs only closed in stages with repeated button pushing which is ok but irritating. Sitting in the car park the other day I thought I would try combinations of position 1 and 2 on the key with pushing the button and holding it when either fully open or fully closed and just succeeded in messing up the front one all together insofar as now when trying to close it the anti-squeeze kicks in and the roof reverses. The only way to shut it is some pretty rapid button stabbing which eventually succeeds but I am worse off then before in that it takes numerous attempts to get it shut. Fran, whilst pulling the front console apart to check the switch I pulled the back of it as the cable was trapped have you got one please, only the single not the triple? - Thanks for any thoughts.

Try this (taken direct from WSM(E))!

'if the roof does not work when the closing control is operated, the system must be initialized: release the control and operate it a second time until the roof is completely closed, keeping it activated for more than a second after the end of travel position has been reached: in this way regular operation will be resumed.'

Hope it makes sense to you (I don't have sunroofs!) and hope it helps.:)

Hi Cliky, thanks for the quick response it is appreciated. Does the WSM give any more info for example engine running or not etc. Otherwise it is basically what I have been trying and without achieving any noticable difference.

The auto control is a real pain, I reset my all the time as they often go into the "repeat button pressing mode".

basically open them all the way then hold the open button down for 10 secs. on the front roof console. Next close them all the way then hold the close button down on the front roof console for 10 secs. It doesn't always work so try it a few times if it keeps playing up.

you need to do this with the ignition on.

Switch arrived - fitted and perfect thank you Fran. Your 10 sec reset procedure also worked perfectly for Sunroofs 2 & 3 which now open and close with just one push. However, the front one persists in bouncing (anti sqeeze affect I guess). If you persist with multiple stabs of the button you can get it closed but even then holding the button for a further 10 secs it does not have the reset effect achieved on the back two. Anybody got any other thoughts please?

Try a bit of light grease on the runners making sure they are clean.

Check the runners for cracks, swap over one of the ecu's and see if it works on the front, finally change motor.
