Alarm auto setting override?

Another little niggle with our 2.2JTD Eleganza (04) - when you leave the vehicle unlocked on the driveway, and then return a few minutes later, say
if you're unloading, the alarm often goes off. I presume it just automatically re-arms itself. Useful for security, but a real pain - especially if you're just sat with the kids in Tescos car-park, while SWMBO goes and gets some milk and bread.
I've read the manual, and can see that the button by the drivers' door disables the internal sensors. However, living in a relatively low car-crime area, I'd rather disable this feature. Anyone know how?

The alarm shouldn't set again once you've opened the car. The only time it will reset and relock is if you press the unlock button and then don't open a door within a certain period. I think there must be a fault with your alarm.

You can't permanently disable the sensors yourself as it will invalidate the Thatcham approval on the alarm, the dealer may be able to do it.

My alarm used to go off randomly when the car was left in the street. I got the dealer to disable the siren as I was concerned about the irritation factor for the neighbours. However, it didn't cross my mind to think about the implications for insurance etc. as Poggy suggests - a good point. Since having this done I read in an old post there is something you can stick across the internal volumetric sensors to desensitise them, so maybe that's something else to look at.
I am beginning to regret asking the dealer to do anything like this though - since I got them to disable to alarm and enable the AV sockets, there has been a problem with the audio volume they have been unable to fix - even having been presented with extracts from this and the EV2 forum. It goes in for its fifth visit soon following a fax exchange with Fiat HQ - apparently they need to work through a series of service bulletins. The dealer admits he finds it "very complicated" but yours may be more familiar with how to do all this.

Sounds like they tweaked a setting when they played with Examiner.

I have discovered that if you leave the "child mirror" down, our alarm goes off all the time without fail. If you put the mirror back up, the alarm is perfect.

I think the child mirror is just in front of the sensor field and if something makes it vibrate then the alarm goes off.

It worth a try if you alarm is going off.

When my alarm goes off on its own it has always been a fly trapped in the car!!

thanks for suggestions - but it's going off when we haven't locked and set the alarm! Intermittent though - yesterday, loading a bike carrier and roof box for a few hours - didn't go off at all. But then, whilst sat in the car in a supermarket car-park, it suddenly decides to go off.

Thank you Poggy. I was just about to make a post about how to desensitise the alarm because the slightest vibration sets it off and then I found this. Child mirror now back up, no more over sensitive alarm.

For the record, my child mirror stays down all the time, and I've never (in 2 years) had an alarm problem. Sounds like I'm lucky.

Maybe I should withdraw my previous post! Last night it went off every time something heavy went past, I live on a main road so buses are the main culprits, no driveway for me . Eventually I moved it to a side road opposite and it hasn't gone off since. I think I'll have a chat with the dealer tomorrow to see if the alarm can be de-sensitised a little. I read in some other posts that there are some materials that can be placed over the sensors to help but I'll see what the dealer says first.

Took it back to the dealer yesterday and they took a look at it. Turns out it's a faulty alarm control module that needs to be replaced. Apparently it's been seen on quite a few of the newer shaped Ulysse's. They're ordering one in.

When you get it fitted can you see if you can get the part number etc. Mine does go off when something large goes past but as I live in a side road it does not happen too often and I have just been living with it, but if it is a known problem I may as well get it seen to.

I'll ask the dealer when it's fitted. I've had to park mine in a side road because we live on a route where single decker buses regularly go past and every single one of them set off the alarm. Wish I had a driveway
