| smokey ulysse just thinking of buying a fiat ulysse, i"ve been offered a 1.9 t/d 1996 model for two grand but its a bit on the smokey side(black smoke on start up and acceleration) its been checked out by a citroen garage and they think its the diesel pump (loads of money).does anyone know what else it maybe,any input would be helpful thanks minger

I had much the same problem as you with my 96 td ulysse . it was a faulty EGR valve which controls the the amount of recirculated exhaust gases which return to the turbo . this was stuck in the open position which caused the engine to be very smoky I got a seconhand EGR unit (very hard to fit not for the fainthearted) and my smoke problem cleared up. Maybe you should look into this Rgds Davycha
