Hi Guys

2005 2.2 Ulysse with 129,000 miles - still on original clutch.

There are no signs that it is about to go but I just want to avoid it going when I am in the French Alps over Xmas! My concern is that with the steep inclines I will be driving it will push it too far and I'll be stranded. Everyone tells me not many clutches last as long as this one has so I know I am pushing it (or am I?).

Anyway I have had such diverse quotes - Local garage where I have it serviced wants £1100 including dual mass flywheel and £800 without. Mr Clutch wants £480 without DMF. A1 Clutch in Derby want £245 without DMF! How can there be such a difference in prices. Local garage tells me it is 12.5 hours labour so if that is right how can A1 want just £245!!

Any comments/advice appreciated.

Hi
We have a 2004 petrol ulysse with 122500 miles on the clock with original clutch still going but judders, have tried to get prices, independent quoted £600.00, main dealer wanted £800.00 plus vat, was speaking to Days at milton keyens and they said on one version of the ulysse the engine has to come out.
DO NOT GO TO MR CLUTCH! BEWARE.

best of luck

If it was my car I would trust the original clutch far more than one fitted by someone charging £245
In fact if someone said to me they would change my clutch for that price I would walk away !
Clutches on these cars ain't cheap
I have broke two on my car and both times it was a shock load that did the damage, inclines should not be a problem ( I have driven mine through the alps several times with a trailer )
I would also add that " if it ain't broke don't fix it "
But yes 129,000 miles on original is impressive :)

Very impressive !!!
I am on 177,000 miles but 3rd clutch :(
However MOT last week and only failed on cracked mirror and handbrake not working on one side !
All sorted now so race is on to 200,000 miles
