usually caused by one of the four sensors failing, get someone to start the car and put it in reverse (with the clutch pedal down!) touch the sensors and you should find one that isn't buzzing. Replace it (an easy job) and all should be good again.
I have exactly the same problem. I removed the interior trim to find that the rear washer pipe was not connected and leaking water whenever the rear washer was activated.
Whats the best solution folks, unit box needs replacing, or worse?

Replacment box (presuming you've checked the fuse of course!)
