Key Fob / Cenral Locking

Hi All,

Apologies, I know this has been done to death in part but looking for bit more help / info.

My 1998 'S' 2.0 EL central locking fob is not working. The key is funny ovoid shape with fold out key and buttons on edge of fob.
I've had a look inside, replaced the battery and checked the contacts (little silver legs all seem intact). The rubber buttons are very worn.

Any ideas on how to check if key or receiver is completely dead or how to 'reset' the key?

On slighlty diferent topic, Should all EL's have engine immobiliser keypad and climate control? Mine has no keypad and what looks like normal heater controls, it has all other EL extras like electric seats windows / twin roof etc.

Thanks,

Ant

Re: Key Fob / Cenral Locking

Key: When I first had my '96 EL the central locking used to stop working occasionally, but unplugging the receiver PCB (in the roof lining by the interior lights) would reset it and cure the problem. It might be worth trying.

Keypad: I think they all started with a keypad. Probably someone took yours out, to avoid the problems if a wire breaks, or maybe it was broken whilst folded out so they removed it rather than replace it.

Climate: My old '96 EL didn't have climate control, just a manual heater control. It was an option fit.

My 98 EL never had a key pad fitted from new, so the answer is no they don't.

Cheers
