ulysse rear suspension

Hi, i have a 96 p 1.9td ulysse, over the past few months a knocking has appeard and now got seriously noisey,i changed shocks, realigned exhaust checked rear brakes, when in the process of doing this i checked the wheel for play, nothing there although it actually moves up more than what it should in my opinion(put both hands under wheel and lift), then when let go comes down with a thud, the oposite side does not do this, should this side??

it actually moves the entire axle.

Any help on the cause of this would be greatfully excepted.

do you have a damping action on that side of the car?

It sounds as tho the damper has failed leaving the car just on springs.

The damper should "Damp" the rate at which the wheel rebounds.

i had the same problem with my 99 ulysse a couple of months ago and it turned out to be the rear axle mounting bushes.
i had thought it was the exhaust or shocks making the noise but a mechanic friend traced it to these bushes, they cost me £30 for the parts. my mate fitted them at the side of the road but he said it was a nightmare job.
