Keypad Imobilisor Problems.

1996 Ulysse 2.0 S

I had the dreaded RED light permently on and it was beeping for about 30 seconds and would not let me enter my code.
Removed keypad. All the wires looked connected. Tried again and got a green light. So, as mentioned on here, removed connector while engine was running. The car re-starts as normal.

What happens when the battery is disconnected or goes flat.

WILL THE CAR START with the keypad disconnected?

Any information on this would be appreciated, thankyou.

Re: Keypad Imobilisor Problems.

I really liked the keypad as it was an ideal to protect the car. the new chipped keys are of little use if your keys get nicked.
I just replaced every wire with a new one and the car saw out the rest of it's life with a working keypad.

Re: Keypad Imobilisor Problems.

Thanks for that, but it does not answer my original question.

"Do you have to plug the keypad back in if the battery goes flat"?

More info would be appreciated, thankyou.

Re: Keypad Imobilisor Problems.

Hello All,
I have a 97 1.9td which suffered the same immobiliser problem so I disconnected it following the forum's advice .Recently the battery died so I fitted a new one and all was fine I didn't need to re connect the immobiliser it fired up fine ,it is a diesel so not as much is controlled by the keypad just fuel not ignition [ I think] but it should still be the same for yours?

Again I would like to re-ask the same question, as I have only had 1 positive reply, their must be more people out their who have experienced this.

What happens when the battery goes flat ( or disconnected ) on a PETROL Ulysse with a disconnected keypad?

Please give me some more info.

Thankyou.

Re: Keypad Imobilisor Problems.

Graeme,
I have been having the same problems with my 1996 petrol Ulysse. When my problem first emerged I followed the advice on the forum about disconnecting the immobiliser as I thought that is where the problem lay. Started car and disconnected the buttons and it started a few times after that. However the problem came back, Not the immobiliser then, In the past when this happened I had disconnected the battery to try and reset? the system. Not being sure if I could do the same with the immobiliser buttons unplugged, I just plugged it back in again. Reconnected the battery leads and only had to punch in the code, which I had always left at four ones, and it started ok. Hope that answers your problem.

Still have not got to the root of my problem yet but I have ruled out water in the fuse box. I'm now starting to think it is something in the igntion control box or the multiple relay not resetting when I switch off the ignition.

Like in some other posts when I can hear a click and whirring sound when the ignition key is turned to the first position I know it will start ok however I can hear the same click and whirring sound about 30 secs after switching the ignition off. What I am now trying to look at is if I don't hear this sound after turning off the ignition whether or not it will start.

Re: Keypad Imobilisor Problems.

GraemeR - once the keypad is disconnected the car will never require it to be used again (unless you re-fit it of course) I removed the keypad from mine (2.0 S petrol) a few weeks ago and then had to replace the battery a couple of weeks later and there was no problem.
