TMC

Hi,

The TMC indicator came on in the car yesterday on a local station. It now seems to be active on "Power FM" and "Ocean FM" in Southampton.

As yet I havent't actually received any messages so maybe it works on the same system as the Classic FM transmitter.

Andy

That is interesting - have you checked out the TMC website yet? I may do so later to see if any more local stations are doing it.

Now all we want if it does work is dual-tuners [V]

Hi,

I will check with the radio station, they are part of Capital radio so are quite good stations.

Have been following info on TMC with interest.
Checked out the ITIS website and telephoned them for more info.
They appear to be the only UK supplier of TMC and they only sell on a corporate level. In other words, they need to have a contract with Fiat so that TMC is available to Fiat drivers. If that contract was in place, Fiat would need to add codes to the Sat Nav disc and issue us all with the new disc!
I have contacted Fiat customer services, who put me through to Customer Relations. I am now waiting for a call back from them.
I wonder if we could get a reaction from them if more of us requested that they made TMC available - ITIS appear to have no problem with the idea, so Fiat are the only 'hold back' factor.
If you want to ring Fiat the number is 0800 717 000 - thay take a certain amount of info from you, with a call back promised.
Will keep you updated.
PS Power FM and Ocean FM are not bad stations - speaking from a local viewpoint. Though Power do have an awful female presenter on in the afternoons!![V]

Hmmm, I recognise that number.

I thought it was an down to an issue with the type of TMC service provided, i.e. incompatibility with the RT3 unit, or maybe any potential update will solve that.

I only listen to Radio 1 - I get annoyed with adverts on ILR.

Have just had a further email from ITIS. They are doing their best to explain the systems, etc.
One of our main interests is being able to use TMC in France - we travel through to the Alps and hold ups make it a very long journey if you don't know they are there.
Some areas of Europe (Germany & France)apparently have some free services - I am trying to find out more and will keep you all updated.

OK - slight update.
Have had a response from Navteq, which essentially tells me to go and bother Fiat or anyone else but Navteq ref TMC in the UK.
If you buy the relevant Navteq disc for France, which gives complete cover rather than the limited cover supplied on the UK disc, it will contain codes for the free service which covers most of France. Paris is not covered free of charge - don't know how you subscribe to the service there!
I can only suggest that as many people as can be bothered pester Fiat or ITIS to get things moving here.
Still waiting for Fiat customer care to call back!!!!
Customer Care - an interesting concept.
