Re: We need help

We recently purchased a Fiat Uylsse EL 1997 had some work done to get it through the MOT.... we just got back from the garage and noticed the car was not running right idling up and down... my husband checked the oil cap and noticed some mayonaise in the oil chamber straight away he thought the head gasket had gone. Some one mentioned this could be caused by a blocked breather pipe does anyone know if this could be the problem? the actual oil on the dipstick was clean would appreciate your advice.
Thanks Carol

Re: We need help

if the car was sitting about for a while when it was being sold, or has only just made short trips, it could just be condensation

Re: We need help

this is the advice I received elsewhere for this very question - i don't have pics of the engine bay to point out the relevant bits though:

"Remove, clean and oil the idle stepper motor [don't turn the ign on with it out] and clean every speck off the throttle butterfly and housing with carb/brake cleaner and an [old] toothbrush."
However I've had to do some long distance motorway driving before I had a chance to do this and it seems to be ok now - maybe just needed a good clean out via my right foot!
