not firing on 2 cylinders

My 2000(W) Ulysse 2.0s petrol (8Valve) is in my local garage at the moment as it is not firing on Cylinders 2 or 3. The Guy has done all the mechanical checks (plugs, Plug leads, fuel injection, fuel pump, filter, etc) but can't find the problem. When he connects the diagnostics gear the car doesn't respond! Any one any hints as to where to look next?

Only good news today is that a long standing battery drain turns out to be a duff radio so is an easy fix! So I can now start the car no probs in the mornings but it is a bit like driving a tractor!!

Would appreciate any help. Cheers

Re: not firing on 2 cylinders

ask him to test the coil packs as that could be the problem

Re: not firing on 2 cylinders

thanks for that. He is going to try another garage diagnostics then looking at coil packs.

Shame but I think it may be time to say goodbye to the car. As this latest episode sounds expensive! We'll see!

Cheers

Re: not firing on 2 cylinders

You probably need MPX adaptor to communicate with ECU.

Re: not firing on 2 cylinders

I've just had the same problem and it was the coil pack which costs around £130 + Vat. Hope you get it sorted.

Re: not firing on 2 cylinders

Thanks for your replies. The coil pack has been replaced and ....................no better! Luckily I have not had to pay for the coil pack as they took it straight back off again! Cylinders 2 an 3 do not fire when idling but do kick in when revs applied. Compression tests show only 90lbs psi on 2 an 3 and 190 psi on 1 and 4!! Decided not to spend any more money on it. It starts in the morning (now we got battery drain sorted!) gets us from a to b (with one or two hic cups). So will put up with it until we replace it in the Spring!

Thanks anyway guys (and Girls)!
