My rear was violated

Hi,

Somebody ran into the back of our Ulysse today while my wife and baby were stationary in traffic. He ran into the back at about 20mph, but apart from a scuff on the bumper there seems to be no damage.

I am going to take it to be checked out at the garage, but I am impressed by the strength of the car.

Most important of all, nobody was hurt.

Andy

Hi Andy,

Sorry to hear about it, but luckily you and the family all safe! I presume no airbags went off, which is good news.

What about the damage to his car? Do you have a towbar on the back or not ;).

Hi.

His car was a Vectra, which had some damage to the front grill etc. No tow bar on our car, the bumper took the hit.

So what do you want the garage to do, just check it out on a jig or something!

I presume there will be no further claim involved, unless something more underlying is found.

Always good to hear that the car can stand up to such abuse!

Same thing happened to me a few days after passing, sat out traffic lights, THUMP, a transit had smacked into the back of me (driving Dad's Renault Scenic, oh I swore!!!) Was no damage though, just a scuff luckily.

Sorry to hear about it.

Hi,

Just want them to check behind the bumper as the plastic bounces back and hides the metal work behind. I had this with another car when I got hit up the rear and thought there was no damage and then got hit for replacement bumper mountings. The bumper mountings are designed to deform and take the energy, have a look under your car and you'll be impressed by the size of them on the Ulysse.

You also want to check that the rear parking sensors still work correctly as they are about £500 pounds to replace

Hi,

Thanks I tried the parking sensors last night, they only work with the engine running, not with just the ignition switched on which is odd. Anyway being automatic I had to put the handbrake on as hard as possible and stick it in reverse. I tested each sensor and they seem to all work.

I'll let you know what happens after I have been to the garage, but I don't think there is any damage.

Well I'd question why under normal circumstances you'd want the sensor to be active unless the engine was running and the car was in reverse gear anyway, but one way to test them could be for you to sit in the car with the engine running, in reverse, and breaks on, and have someone (possibly someone you don't like) get in the way of each sensor! :D

Now now John :).

It did sound a bit risky keeping the car in reserve with the handbrake full on - surely another person would have made things a bit safer!

Anyway, at least no major damage done.

Hi,

There was nobody about to help, but I didn't stand behind the car just in case. I sat in the boot and put my hand over each sensor in turn. I am still surprised that the sensors don't work with the ignition on and the gearbox in reverse, I expected it just to be fed from the reversing lamp power feed.

The garage checked it out today and apart from a minor scuff on the black plastic bit on the bumper, there was no damage at all.

Pretty impressed.

Andy
