I've had a leak in my power steering system, not sure of the cause yet but it seems to be a slow leaking of fluid.
To get it to a garage I need to top up the fluid and drive the thing, not the ideal situation but I'll have to live with it.
I've been told there is more than one kind of power steering fluid and they are not compatible with each other, anyone know which is used in the 2002+ Ulysse?

My 03 model uses ATF Dexron II D oil, lEV NLGI 2
TUTELA GI/A
according to the handbook.

Most likely problem is steering rack seals gone. The steering rack gatters are probably filling with fluid.
Likely to be expensive.

Thanks for that.
Should the worst case happen,is this a common part with any other models?, Fiat or otherwise?
I think we tend to get stiffed when you ask for something so specific it can only be sourced through main dealers. If its a more generic part then I can look around for something.

Assuming it's a duff stearing rack then you should be able to get it serviced or a recon one outside of a dealer.
What sort of mileage has the car done?

40,000 or so miles.Not a great scenario.
Would this be a generic eurovan 2 bit and be the same in all variations ?

Already done way more than that in mine with no problems.
I'd top up and see if the level continues to drop.
Avoid spinning the wehhel lock to lock while stationary. Maybe the racks just been over pushed.
If the fluid still drops then you'll have to investigate. But i'd guess stearing rack seals. I imagine they are all the same.

Update:power steering fluid

The problem has been fixed now, a corroded pipe had been leaking fluid.
While the garage was working on it they also replaced a coolant pipe that was in very poor condition and have advised me that one of the pulleys on the engine will need to be replaced fairly soon.
Maybe its just acceptable wear and tear but I dont think that reflects well on the long term durability of this car.
